SuperLega, painless defeat in Monza (2-3): Diatec Trentino ends at the fourth place in ranking

Eder spikes a quick attacck

Quest accomplished for Diatec Trentino in Brianza. Despite its first away defeat in the return round, which came at the tie-break versus Monza, the yellow-blue team has in fact ended its regular season of SuperLega Unipolsai 2017/18 with a fourth place in ranking.
The comeback and overtaking attempts of Calzedonia have then been rejected thanks to the point obtained for the ranking and the contemporary victory at the tie-break of Verona; it will be Trentino Diatec then to have the home factor advantage in two matches out of three of the Adige Derby in the Championship Unipolsai Play Offs 2018 quarterfinals, which will starts in seven days.
It’s a great result for Lorenzetti’s lads, maybe hardly predictable after the hard start of the season, but absolutely deserved and conquered day by day on the field, showing of being able to win many away matches. As already happened in the previous eight away championship matches, Diatec Trentino was in fact able to win in Monza as well and to keep climbing the ranking, winning the first set during the final sprint and being able then to react after having lost 2 sets. The fantastic fourth set won at Candy Arena has then made the tie-break absolutely irrelevant, which was won by a Gi Group which was willing of stop its negative tradition versus the Club of via Trener (versus which it had lost all the eleven previous matches until tonight).
In view of the Championship Play Offs, were very reassuring the performances offered by Vettori (best scorer of the match with 19 points and 61% in attack), captain Lanza (16 scored points with 44% in attack) and Giannelli, who scored eight times this evening at well (2 blocks, 1 ace and 83% in attack).
