Giannelli: “I’m ready to start the Italian National Team season. Lisinac, what a strike!”

Simone Giannelli during a training session at BLM Group Arena in Trento

Waiting to join, already on Monday afternoon, the National Team group, Simone Giannelli trained these days in the weight-room in Trento. The rest period after the Championship Play Offs run has now ended and the setter from Bolzano wants to be in a good physical shape for the first official matches of the Italian National Team (the first match will be during next weekend versus Australia in Reggio Calabria and Catania). The player offered to Trentino Volley Tv his point of view before starting the summer season, which will have its point of main importance in September with the World Cup in Italy.
“I tried to rest during these days without matches but I also spent some time thinking about this past season with Diatec Trentino – admitted Simone - . I think it was positive, because despite an hard unexpected start, we still managed to climb back up and to turn into protagonists once more. The breakthrough definitely arrived during the home match of mid-November versus Latina, which we were losing 0-2. From that moment something snapped and allowed us to rise up until we reached the point of being able to fair fight during five semi-final matches versus the forthcoming Italian Champion, Perugia. I know that our supporters are not used to such difficult season but I’m sure that they still appreciated our thirst for redemption and I personally say thanks to them for having supported us in every single moment. What we did won’t remain in our record of achievements but we still have to be proud of ourselves. The arrive of Lisinac is a good starting point for next championship; he is one of the best middle-blockers of the world and I honestly think what I’m saying since I often played versus him during last years with the Italian National Team kit on. He’s an high-level player but I’m certainly not the first one to figure this out today, everyone knows what he’s able to do: he is complete in every fundamental, I’m very happy to have the chance to play with him”.
“My National Team summer will start on Monday, I’m looking forward to begin, also because there will be many important dates – continued Giannelli - . The Volleyball Nations League will be an occasion to play many matches and to improve our team performances, we will try to win as many matches as we can, with a view to the World Cup, which is still far but which everyone is already thinking about. I’ve never played a World Cup and so I’m very curious but I’m equally sure that it will be a very hard tournament”.
