Giannelli is the new captain of Trentino Volley

Simone Giannelli is the new Captain

Simone Giannelli is the new captain of Trentino Volley. The setter, who was born in Bolzano on August 9th 1996, will in fact be able to flaunt the most symbolic armband of the Club of via Trener on his jersey during the nineth season of his career in Trento (the fifth one in the main roster, after having played four seasons in the Youth Team).
Giannelli will be the tenth player in the history of Trentino Volley to have the chance of play this important role. He is the youngest ever, since he’s only twenty-two years old. The captain armband was worn before Giannelli by: Francesco Lavorato (28 times), Paolo Tofoli (60 times), Lorenzo Bernardi (31 times), Andrea Sartoretti (41 times), Marco Meoni (64 times), Nikola Grbic (85 times), Matey Kaziyski (204 times and record-man of this ranking), Emanuele Birarelli (91 times) and Filippo Lanza (150 times).
“None but Giannelli could be better suited to play this important role – explained president Diego Mosna - . Despite his young age, Simone is a symbol of our Club because he started playing here, he feels a strong sense of belonging and he shares our values. He’s a source of pride for Trentino Volley, since we managed to make him play at high levels, and it’s also an honour for us to give him the captain armband today”.
“I’ve always thought that the captain role is an important one. It requires leadership, a skill that Giannelli owns for sure, but also other skills that our captain will surely be able to develop them in the future, completing a useful and positive growth path – pointed out coach Angelo Lorenzetti - . During the summer we were able to talk together about it and his enthusiasm makes us understand that our choice was the best possible”.
“Wearing Trentino Volley’s armband it’s a matter of joy and responsibility at the same time – said in the end Simone Giannelli from Cavalese, where he’s participating to the pre-World Cup retreat - . The last time I played this role was still in this Club but with the Under 14 team; therefore, I feel even more stimulated even if I know I still have to learn a lot of things to learn. I can maybe take a cue from who came before me, like Birarelli and Lanza, my captains since I’ve started playing in the main team”. With the investiture of Giannelli as captain the relationship between Trentino Volley and the Italian setter, the player of the new roster with the greatest number of presences (alreadt 193 – none at his age managed to play more matches), becomes even more strong and significative.
