Modena-Trento 1-3, the match report

Report of the match. Angelo Lorenzetti confirms the same starting six that defeated Perugia on Saturday: Giannelli setter, Vettori opposite, Kovacevic and Russell as wing spikers, Candellaro and Lisinac as middle-blockers and grebennikov libero. Velasco lines up Azimut Leo Shoes Modena with Christenson as setter, Zaytsev opposite, Bednorz and Urnaut as wing spikers, Anzani and Holt middle-blockers and Rossini libero. In the beginning of the match Modena starts strong with Bednorz leading 1-4; Trento keeps close with a block and serve by Giannelli and breaks away on 9-6. Zaytsev closes the gap (10-10) and pushes hard for 11-13. Almost all by himself Russell brings Itas Trentino back on the lead with an attack and his services (17-14). On the other side Zaytsev answers to his former teammate (19-20, time out Lorenzetti). Bednorz steps in and digs the +4 gap (20-24) before closing the set 23-25 after wasting three set balls.
Hyped by the win of the first set Modena begins the second set very well, serving fast balls and thanking the net (6-10). Itas Trentino suffers tremendously in reception and leaves huge freedom the Modena’s attackers; without ever being really into the set Yellow-blues lose the second set (7-13, 10-16, 17-22 e 19-25).
Trento reacts and tries to strike back in the third set, relying on the serve and on blocks (8-3). Giannelli serves preciously and insists on playing with Russell and Lisinac (11-5). Modena doesn’t seem to resist, loses a step (16-10) then tries to get back with Zaytsev(19-15). Vettori improves his game and helps Russell closing the set on 25-16.
Point by point is how the fourth set starts (6-5), until Kovacevic breaks loose and sings the +3 gap (11-8). Holt doesn’t give in and ties with the serve (11-11), but Giannelli isn’t impressed and shows he can serve and make a difference too (15-12). Azimut Leo Shoes is lost when it comes to breakpoints, Vettori and Lisinac are ruthless both at the serve and with their blocks: quickly Yellow-blues break away (20-14) and win the set on 25-18.
In the final and decisive set Modena wakes up and leads (4-6, 5-8); Kovacevic makes a few mistakes and Azimut Leo Shoes dominates 8-13, with Zaytsev scoring the last point (8-15).
