On Wednesday the seasonal debut in CEV Cup: the past years in tournament

In less than a week Trentino Volley will officially start its own seasonal experience in the Europe Cups. On the 21th of November indeed, our fourth absolute participation in Coppa Cev will be opened in Lausanne (Switzerland). This will be the thirteen ever in Europe, if we consider also the eight participations in CEV Champions League (six in a row between 2008 and 2014 and then those in 2016 and 2018). The three previous matches took place during the seasons 2004/5, 2014/15 and 2016/17: in the first event, our team started its round of competitions in Top Teams Cup, hosting at PalaTrento the four-round of the first stage of qualification, which also included Famagusta (Cyprus), Strassen (Luxemburg) and Rotterdam (Holland),all teams that defeated and wiped ours out, leading it to the second position, obtained in the Pool of Coppa CEV. The team, at the time trained by Prandi, ran for the round of sixteen and won a new round of four-qualification with the hosting players and also with Pribram (Czech Republic) and Patrasso (Greece) at Odense (Denmark). The adventure reached the end during the successive turn, due to Halkbank Ankara, who succeeded twice 3-1 on the 7th and 15th of December 2014. Itas’ history life was much longer during 2014/15, which ended in the second position behind Dinamo Mosca, which won the trophy just at the golden set, after playing two matches very different from each other. (victory for Russia at PalaTrento, whereas Itas won in the Russian capital). To reach that point, the team (at the time coached by Stoytchev) consecutively beated Novi Sad during the round of thirty-two, Tel Aviv in the round of sixteen , Craiova in the quarterfinals, Roeselare in the Challenge Round and Kedzierzyn-Kozle in the semifinal. Also the experience in the 2016/17 edition of CEV Cup ended in the same way, namely in the second position, after having lost the final against the French of Tours in the golden set (beated at home 3-0 in the first match but then winners 1-3 in the second one and in the playoff set in front of their fans. In that event, the silver medal was obtained after double matches against Loimaa in the round of thirty-two, Sastamala in the round of sixteen, Piacenza in the quarterfinals and Istanbul (Fenerbahce) in the semifinal. However, what the european matches concerns, the best memories trace back to CEV Champions League, which three times meant victory: on the 5th of April 2009 in Prague when, playing against Iraklis Thessaloniki, Trento won 3-1 after having beaten Macerata in the semifinal of the italian derby and having ended the tournament with an impressive result (12 victories out of 12 matches): on the second of May 2010 at Atlas Arena in Lodz, thanks to the excellent success against Dinamo Mosca and on the 27th of March 2011 at the PalaOnda in Bolzano, because of the 3-1 in the final against Kazan.
