Itas Trentino-Calzedonia Verona 3-0, match report

Match report. For the fourth match played at the BLM Group Arena, Angelo Lorenzetti suggested once again the same formation: Giannelli as the setter, opposite hitter Vettori, Kovacevic and Russel, the spikers, Lisinac and Candellaro as the middle blockers and Grebennikov the libero. Nikola Grbic, one of the many ex-players present that evening, in response had Spirito playing as the setter, Boyer the opposite hitter, Manavi and Savani the outside hitters, Alletti and Solé as the middle blockers and De Pandis the libero (these last two rewarded with a commemorative plaque by President Mosna for the previous seasons played in Trento). The beginning of the match was pressing, with Verona trying to prevail with Savani (2-4), and Trento responding with some serving (Lisinac) and blocking (Candellaro) reaching 9-7. After the block of Kovacevic on Boyer that led to 11-8, the team from Verona asked for time out but as the match resumed the left handed Serbian player increased the gap with the opponent team (counterattack and ace) reaching 15-10. Grbic interrupted the match again but Itas Trentino was overwhelming in every fundamental (first 17-11 and after 19-11) thanks to a very efficient Russel at the net. The change of side came after the end of the first set won 25-16 by Itas Trentino, with Lisinac scoring his third net point. As the match resumed, during the second set, there were not big changes, the duo Kovacevic-Lisinac increased rapidly the gap between the two teams (4-2, 6-3 and 9-5), in a second time Verona tried to get closer benefitting from its serving (Aletti and Sharifi’s aces, on the court replacing Savani already at the end of the first set) and reaching 12-11. Itas Trentino started again with a block by Giannelli (14-11) and then with another block by Lisinac (18-13), that led the home players, among them also Vettori stood out playing as spiker, towards 2-0, that was achieved only with 25-23: Lorenzetti’s team failed five set balls before scoring thanks to Russell.
During the third set Calzedonia (with Birarelli playing for Alletti and the duo Sharifi-Savani in position 4) gave their best, blocking in a better way (3-5). Trento responded with Russell and Giannelli (another block) scoring 9-7. Itas Trentino picked up pace more and more (12-9, 15-11), led towards the victory by Vettori and by Russell always very active. Verona reacted until 19-16, then it finally gave space to Trentino Volley’s players (23-18 and 25-18).
