On Wednesday evening in Switzerland the going match of the round of 32 of 2019 CEV Cup

The 2019 CEV Cup is officially starting for Trentino Volley. On Wednesday 21th November our team is going to play the going match of the thirty-two in the final of the second most important continental club match; after the eighth participation in CEV Champions League of the last season, Trentino Itas is going to open its tournament competing at home against the team from Switzerland of Lausanne Uc. The match will start at the Italian 8 p.m.: live on Radio Dolomiti.
HERE TRENTINO ITAS Seven months and ten days away from the last time, Itas Trentino is going to play on an European ground again, debuting in the competition during which, in the past, two second places were gained. Back after three consecutive victories of championship, that led our players very close to the second position, Giannelli and his peers are ready and determined to achieve an important result already on this first occasion, so that by doing so they would face with more serenity the return match on the 6th of December (which will take place immediately after the participation in the World Club Cup in a very busy period of matches).
“This match is very important for us, which two players who competed during the final of the 2017 edition and even I have a debt with – states Trentino Volley coach Angelo Lorenzetti - . This is about a long tournament, hard but fascinating and of high level at the same time; we want to move forward as much as we can and this is why already on Wednesday evening in Switzerland we will do our best, also seizing the opportunity of playing an international match in a week during which there won’t be time enough to train. We know our opponents just a little, but we know that Lausanne UC is a very well trained team, full of enthusiasm and with a very rapid side-out particularly if triggered in position 4.”
The coach can count on the complete roster of thirteen players, who will train  at the University Sport Hall in Dorigny already this evening, after having travelled by train in the morning. In the previous eleven participations in the European Cups, Trentino Volley has always started with a victory. Four times the debut match took place away, right as on Wednesday: two of these do refer to previous experiences in CEV Cup: namely the 2015 edition, when Trento won 3-1 against Novi Sad (4th of November 2014) and the 2017 edition, when our team won 3-0 in Loimaa (Finland, 5th of January 2017).
FOURTH PARTICIPATION OF ITAS TRENTINO IN CEV CUP This is the fourth absolute participation in CEV Cup during Trentino Volley’s history, and the thirteenth ever in Europe if we consider the eight matches in CEV Champions League (six in a row between 2008 and 2014 and the latest ones in 2016 and 2018). The three previous ones in the match refer to the seasons 2004/5, 2014/15 and 2016/17: in the first event, our team was making his way in Top Teams Cup, hosting at PalaTrento the four-round of the first phase of qualification that included also Famagusta (Ciprus), Strassen (Luxemburg) and Rotterdam (Holland) from which Itas was defeated and wiped out and moving, thanks to the second position achieved in the Pool, to CEV Cup. The team, at the time trained by Prandi, qualified for the round of sixteen in the final, winning in Odense (Denmark) a new round of four-qualification that included both the hosting team and Pribram (Czech Republic) and Patrasso (Greece). The adventure came to an end in the successive turn, due to Halkbank Ankara, who won twice 3-1 and on the 7th and 15th of December 2004. The history path was much longer in 2014/15, which ended in second position behind Dinamo Mosca, winner of the trophy just in the golden set after two very different matches (victory for Russia at PalaTrento, whereas for Trento in Moscow). The team, at the time coached by Stoytchev, before reaching that point, beat in turn Novi Sad in the round of thirty-two, Tel Aviv in the round of sixteen, Craiova in the quarterfinals, Roeselare in the Challenge Round and Kedzierzyn-Kozle in the semifinal. Also the participation in the 2016/17 in CEV Cup ended in the same way, namely with a second place after losing in the golden set the final against the French team of Tours, who were defeated 3-0 at home in the going match but then won 1-3 in the return match in front of their fans and also in the playoff match. During that event, the team achieved the silver medal after double challenges against Loimaa in the round of thirty-two, against Sastamala in the round of sixteen, against Piacenza in the quarterfinals and vs Istanbul (Fenerbahce) in the semifinal.
SECOND AWAY GAME IN SWITZERLAND This is the second away game ever in Switzerland for Trentino Volley, and this experience has started this morning and it will finish tomorrow afternoon coming back to Italy. Itas Trentino had already played a round phase match of Champions League 2014 in the country, winning 3-0 in Lugano on 10th December 2013. In total, Trentino Volley already took 66 European away games on (15 just in CEV Cup) and won 46 of these matches, the last one in Izmir (Turkey, on 1st February 2018). The match in Losanna will be the 148th Trentino Volley's International; evaluation: 119 victories, 28 defeats.
THE OPPONENTS Trentino Volley visits the Swiss reigning champions. Lausanne UC is participating in the 2019 CEV Cup because they won the Helvetian championship, for the eighth time in their long history (more than 40 years). The victory in the Final series against Näfels (2-1) interrupted the ten-year-impasse; Lausanne UC had won their last championship in the season 2007/2008. The team of the city of Losanna (a city located near the Lemano Lake, in the the French-speaking canton Vaud, that hosts the International Olympic Committee of Fivb) is one of the more important team in the country: they also won 4 Swiss Cups and 2 Supercoppe. For this reason, they participated in many Europeans events and Europeans Cups.
The ongoing CEV Cup is their 13th involvement in this Cup.
Trained by the Italian coach Massimiliano Giaccardi (already present on the bleachers of Forlì and Cuneo), the Lausanne UC can count on the Norwegian player Kvalen (in A2 in Lagonegro), on the French player Prevel and on the Serbian middle-blocker Stevanovic; all of these three players played well in the round of sixty-four final against Lviv (defeat at tiebreak in the away game - victory 3-0 during the home game).
In the national championship, Lausanne UC is the fourth team, even though they scored 9 points in six matches thanks to three victories - the last one on Saturday night against Berna in front of their fans (3-1). The roster of Lausanne UC: 2. Jonathan Kaeser (opposite), 3. Arthur Sueur (middle-blocker), 5. Radisa Stefanovic (middle-blocker), 6. Bjorn Hoene (spiker), 7. Dennis Jose Del Valle Villalobos (libero), 8. Sebastien Chevallier (setter), 9. Jonas Kvalen (spiker), 10. Reto Pfund (setter), 11. Damien Sommer (middle-blocker), 12. Karim Zerika (middle-blocker), 15. Mathias Montavon (spiker), 16. Tim Ineichen (libero), 17. David Feughouo (opposite), 20. Adrien Prevel (spiker). Coach Massimo Giaccardi.
THE FORMULA In the 2019 CEV Cup the teams have to play six double turns - home and away games - (Round of sixty-four - already played -, Round of thirty-two, Round of sixteen, Quarterfinals,  Semifinals and Final) and there is a straight up elimination: the team that in the two matches scores more points, awarded like during the championship: 3 points for victories 3-0 or 3-1, 2 point for the victory at tiebreak, 1 point for the defeat at tiebreak (golden set until 15 in case of tie - like in Playoffs 12 of CEV Champions League). The team that moves into the next turn will face the winning team between Hypo Tirol AlpenVolleys Haching (Ger) e Vojvodina Ns Seme Novi Sad (Srb) (going match, in eight days).
PREVIOUS MATCHES The event of Wednesday will be the first match ever between the two teams; anyway, Trentino Volley faced one Helvetian team during the CEV Champions League 2014: Lugano. Itas Trentino won both the home game (on 30th October) and the away game (10th December).
REFEREES The match will be directed by Buran Ilhan, the first referee Ankara (Turkey), and by the Slovenian Gregor Novak, the second referee of Lubiana. Neither directed matches against Trentino Volley.
