Report of the match. Angelo Lorenzetti chose a different starting six from the usual, with Daldello as setter, Nelli opposite, Van Garderen and Kovacevic as spikers, Lisinac and Candellaro middle-blockers, Grebennikov libero. Giannelli and Russell both enjoyed a well deserved day off. Lausanne UC’s starting six was similar to the first match: Pfund as setter, Kvalen opposite, Hoehne and Prevel as spikers, Stefanovic and Zerika middle-blockers, Del Valle Villalovos libero. The match starts with Trentino pushing hard and trying to dig a gap with Kovacevic (attack and ace on 5-2), but the Swiss with Kvalen tie the result at 8-8. An ace with Zerika leads them on 10-11, Kovacevic reverses the score (14-12) and Nelli confirms the trend (17-15). In the final part of the first set Trentino Itas conserves the gap (20-18) before letting Lausanne tie at 22 (mistakes by Cavuto and time out). A break by Kovacevic and an aces by Van Garderen close the set (25-22). The World Champions begin the second set without the right focus and suffer the counter attacks of the opponent, forcing Lorenzetti to call a time out on 2-5. Yellow-blues close the gap with the serbian aces by Kovacevic and Lisinac (7-7); until 13-13 the two teams travel parallely, Van Garderen with a block and Lisinac with the serve overturn the situation for 16-14. Pushing harder, Trento goes on 19-15 and 23-19, with increasing percentages in attack and at the serve with Nelli; Nelli himself scores the 25-20 that brings home team on 2-0 sets and access the next step of the competition.
Itas Trentino keeps playing well and wants to close the set 3-0; they reaches the 8-5 also during the third set thanks to the performance of Candellaro. The distance remains almost the same during the third set (11-8, 16-13), and Lorenzetti chooses Codarin to take Lisinac’s place. The Friulian middle-blocker does his best and the set ends 25-17.
