Supercoppa 2020, Trentino Volley at its 10th Final in the last eleven editions

The game’s formulas vary, the opponents alternate, but Trentino Volley remains the only constant. On Sunday, with the first leg semifinal with Lube scheduled at the BLM Group Arena in Trento, the Via Trener club will inaugurate its tenth participation in the last eleven editions of the Italian Supercoppa Final.
In recent years, the game’s formula has often been modified, however, the gialloblù team has always been the constant: the 2020 edition will once again be based on four protagonists, as has been the case since 2016, but in this case a real Final Four will not be held: the semifinals will be divided into a first and second match (the team that has obtained the most points in the double confrontation passes the round), the Final will be played in a knock-out match on 25 September at the Arena of Verona.
In addition to the final fourth places recorded in the 2016 and 2017 editions, third in 2020 and second in 2018, the precedents in the event for the Trentino Club are linked to the matches in Florence 2008 (0-3 with Lube), Turin 2010 (0-3 with Cuneo), Cagliari 2011 (3-1 with Cuneo), Modena 2012 and 2015 (2-3 with Lube and 2-3 with the hosts) and Trento 2013 (3-0 again with Lube): two wins out of ten appearances. The participation that opens on Sunday will lead Trentino Volley to improve its leadership in the history of this competition: in fact, no club has ever before taken part in so many finals within a few years. Treviso, for example, had been the protagonist five times over six consecutive seasons, in that case between 1996 (edition number 1) and 2001.
