SuperLega, big match on Sunday at the BLM Group Arena for the sixth round

SuperLega Credem Banca 2020/21 on the field for the sixth round of the regular season, which will be played entirely on Sunday 18 October 2020. On this occasion, Itas Trentino will return to the BLM Group Arena to face Sir Safety Conad Perugia. Kick-off set for 6 pm: live on RAI Sport + and Radio Dolomiti.
ITAS TRENTINO After two weeks the giallo-blù team can play a home game again and await the visit of the league leaders in one of the most anticipated matches of the regular season. Not having played the midweek round (the A22 derby with Modena will be played on Thursday 5 November), Angelo Lorenzetti was able to work for an entire week with the team, refining the chemistry and mechanisms, in order to offer continuity to the encouraging match last Sunday in Piacenza. "After that good performance we were able to train for a whole week thinking about this match, with the desire to confirm the progress shown on the last occasion - these are the words of the Itas Trentino coach - . In front of us we will find a team that has already won a trophy and that up to now has not missed a single shot in the championship; it will therefore be stimulating to face it, to understand at what level we currently are, compared to our opponent who is watching everyone from above and who, above all, was able to find excellent solutions even with a sextet different from that of last season".
The giallo-blù coach will have to do without the spiker Michieletto (still in quarantine due to the Coronavirus positivity found twelve days ago), but will have the other twelve effective squads available, who have regularly trained also this afternoon at BLM Group Arena. On this occasion Trentino Volley will aim at the 595th victory in its history (in 854 official matches), the 311st in Trento. In the regular season, the giallo-blù Club has won 196 of the 254 home games played so far.
THE OPPONENTS Sir Safety Conad Perugia will come over the weekend in Trento at the top of an extremely positive moment as regards both the results and the game. The Umbrians arrive at the appointment after having won seven of the eight seasonal games played so far; to the five three-point victories obtained in the championship (only Piacenza has managed to win a set so far) the two victories obtained in the Super Cup must be added (3-0 over Modena in the first leg of the Semifinal and 3-2 over Civitanova in the final) ; the only knockout suffered (2-3 in Modena in the second leg of the semifinal) was, among other things, absolutely painless because it happened when the qualification was already achieved. All without being able to count on the captain and symbol, the opposite spiker Atanasijevic still in the pits due to physical problems. To replace him the coach Vital Heynen first bet on the Canadian Vernon-Evans (taken in the summer from Ravenna) and then launched a formation with three spikers, in which the Dutch Ter Horst has shown that he knows how to adapt well to the role of spiker of place 1 and place 2. The other two spikers are Leon (extraordinary start of the season for him) and Plotnytskyi, who became the holder of place 4 on a permanent basis. In the sextet led by Travica, the contribution offered by two former players such as the middle-blocker Sebastian Solé (189 games and 1,681 points in the giallo-blù jersey) and the libero Massimo Colaci (still record holder of giallo-blù appearances – 345 – same as Birarelli) was fundamental.
BACKGROUND Trento and Perugia have already officially faced thirty-four times but, due to the Coronavirus emergency, they never did so during the year 2020. The total balance sees the Via Trener Club ahead for 18-16, but the Umbrians have won ten of the last fourteen matches. The most recent challenge dates back to 1 December 2019: 1-3 (21-25, 25-20, 19-25, 23-25) at the BLM Group Arena with Atanasijevic MVP. At the via Fersina facility, Perugia has won only three of the previous sixteen matches played: 1-3 on March 16, 2014 and 0-3 on February 4, 2018 on the other two occasions. The most recent success of the giallo-blù team is dated January 5, 2019: 3-0 with sets of 25-23, 25-19, 35-33 and Lisinac MVP.
THE REFEREES The match will be directed by the couple composed of Gianluca Cappello (from Sortino, province of Syracuse, in the role since 2004) and Alessandro Tanasi (from Noto - in Serie A since 2002), respectively in the fourth and third direction of the season in SuperLega. The last precedent with Trentino Volley for Cappello dates back to almost a year ago (9 November 2019 - home success with Verona at the tie break), while for Tanasi the most recent crossing dates back to 22 February 2020: Civitanova-Trento 3-2, semifinal of the Italian Cup in Bologna
