Champions League, numbers and curiosities about the Trento tournament

Numbers, statistics, notes and curiosities at the end of the first tournament of Pool E of the Main Phase of 2021 CEV Champions League, played in the previous days at the BLM Group Arena.

23 SETS IN 579 MINUTES During the six matches, twenty-three sets were played for over nine and a half hours of actual play, made of 1,013 actions. The only regret remains linked to the absence of the audience due to the safety protocols which provided for the dispute of the entire tournament behind closed doors.

600th OFFICIAL GIALLO-BLU VICTORY 'The three successes obtained in quick succession with Novosibirsk (Tuesday), Karlovarsko (Wednesday) and Friedrichshafen (Thursday) have allowed Trentino Volley to cross the finish line of 600 official victories in its history. The giallo-blù Club has collected them in just over 20 years of activity, reaching 69% of victories out of 862 games played overall. The most frequent success is 3-0 (315 times, 52%), while the least frequent one is 3-2 (109). The season that saw the Via Trener club collecting the most wins was the 2009/10: 47 wins in 56 games played.

7 OUT OF 7 EUROPEAN VICTORIES If the Italian championship so far has reserved some difficulties, the European path has been instead perfect for Trentino Itas which between the two preliminary rounds of Trento and Amriswil and the first tournament of Pool E at the BLM Group Arena he only achieved victories (7) in the CEV Champions League, leaving just three sets on the road: two with Novosibirsk and one with Karlovarsko.

A RECORD HAS BEEN SET The match against Novosibirsk on Tuesday evening has already entered the history of Trentino Volley: The fifth and last set is in fact the shortest set ever played by the giallo-blù Club in all its history, having lasted just 14 minutes. The previous record was related to the first set of the match between Gioia del Colle and Trento, played on 12 December 2004 in Puglia and concluded after 15 minutes with a score of 14-25. It is not enough, because the score of 15-2 is the highest gap ever that Trentino Volley has ever managed to impose on an opponent in official matches, obviously referring to a tie break. The series of eleven consecutive serves made by Nimir Abdel-Aziz between 4-2 and 15-2 is, finally, the longest row of serves made in a row by a Trentino Volley player in an official match. The previous record from this point of view belonged to Osmany Juantorena, who performed nine consecutive services (between 16-18 and 25-18) in the second set of Castellana Grotte-Trento 0-3 on 25 November 2012.

GREAT FUNDAMENTALS! 38 blocks overall, with an average of 12.6 points per game and 3.1 per set; 34 total aces, at an average of 11.3 per game, 2.8 per set. There is no doubt that Trentino Itas has found a great driving force to bring home the three victories from the fundamentals of blocking and serving, never so incisive as in the last three days. The king of the block was Lisinac (11 points throughout the tournament), while the one on service was obviously Nimir Abdel-Aziz: 13 aces out of 55 hits in total, with only 9 direct errors.

VARIOUS MVPs Nimir on Tuesday, Kooy on Wednesday, Lucarelli on Thursday. The MVP prize of the individual matches was won every day by a different Trentino Volley player, confirming how much the team was able to offer alternatives in their game and constantly rely on effective resources.

SEE YOU IN FEBRUARY On Thursday evening the four teams said goodbye, they will see each other again in February 2021. Between Tuesday 9 and Thursday 11 of February in the brand new Zeppelin CAT Halle A1 in Friedrichshafen (Germany) the second and final tournament of Pool E will be played, which will draw the final classification, assigning to the first place the pass for the quarter-finals. The second place, on the other hand, will have to be among the best three of all five groups to pass the round. The match schedule will be similar.
