Play Off, notes and statistical curiosities after match 1 of the quarterfinals

Some notes and statistical curiosities revealed after match 1 of the quarterfinals of Play Off SuperLega Credem Banca 2021, won by 3-2 by Itas Trentino on Gas Sales Bluenergy Piacenza.

ONCE AGAIN, GOOD THE FIRST MATCH. The eighteenth participation of Trentino Volley at the Play Off Scudetto opened with a win, confirming a positive trend for the gialloblù team. Indeed, Wednesday evening, the gialloblù Club achieved the fifteenth victory out of eighteen seasonal debuts in the postseason phase of the championship. Only in three cases, the debut didn’t end with a win and it was always only against Modena: 2003 (2-3), 2006 (2-3) and 2014 (0-3) season.

EIGHTH TIE BREAK IN THE PLAY OFF AGAINST PIACENZA. The fifth set between Trentino Volley and Piacenza in the Play Off Scudetto is always a (pleasant) habit. With the one played on Thursday, eight matches (out of nineteen matches in this phase overall) ended at the tie break: 2 in the series of 2005 quarterfinals, one in 2008, three in 2009, one in 2013, and one in 2021. In every edition that saw the two Companies faced each other, they went at least one time at the tie break. The report is a perfect tie: 4 wins each.

WHAT A DEBUT FOR TWO SPIKERS!. The match of Wednesday against Piacenza marked a double important debut in the Play Off Scudetto between Trentino Volley players. Curiously, the rookies were both in place 4: both Ricardo Lucarelli and Alessandro Michieletto have never played a match in this phase of the Italian championship, but have demonstrated to adapt perfectly to this new challenge. The Brazilian scored 17 points, becoming the MVP of the match, while the young spiker scored 13, recording great percentages at the net (61%).

LUCARELLI AS RIAD. With seventeen scored points, the Brazilian spiker Ricardo Lucarelli achieved 384 points with the Trentino Volley jersey, reaching the compatriot Riad in the ranking of spikers “all time” of the gialloblù Club.

GIANNELLI SURPASSES NASCIMENTO. The four points scored in match 1 against Piacenza allowed Simone Giannelli to gain another place in the ranking of spikers “all time” of Trentino Volley. With 1,063 personal points, now the Captain is in fifteenth place: surpassed the Brazilian opposite spiker Nascimento (1,062). Now, Leondino Giombini (1,116) is in sights.

ON SUNDAY IN PIACENZA THE 120^ GIALLOBLU MATCH IN THE PLAY OFF. Match 2 on Sunday 14 March in Piacenza (at 18 – live on Eleven Sports and Radio Dolomiti) will be the 120^ match of Trentino Volley in the Play Off Scudetto, the 884^ in the gialloblù history. Twenty-five of these were played in Emilia: 14 victories for the gialloblù Club. The gialloblù will try to obtain the away win that has been missing for more than four years in the Play Off; the last away success is dated back to 8 March 2017 (3-0 in Monza in match 2 of the quarterfinals). After the win in three sets, eleven consecutive KO arrived (5 in Perugia, 4 in Civitanova, 1 in Verona and Padova).
