Itas Trentino-Kioene Padova 2-3, the match report

The match report. After having lined up in the latest four matches a starting six with all three spikers, for this appointment Angelo Lorenzetti returns to use the opposite spiker, preferring Pinali instead of Lavia. Confirmed the others: Kaziyski and Michieletto as spikers, Lisinac and Podrascanin as middle blockers, Zenger libero. Kioene Padova responds with Zimmermann as setter, Weber as opposite spiker, Bottolo and Loeppky as spikers, Volpato and Vitelli as middle blockers, Gottardo libero. Trento starts well the set (from 2-2 to 6-2) thanks to a positive turn at service of Michieletto, who favours the blocks of Lisinac and Pinali. The time-out of Cuttini doesn’t produce any improvement for the guests, who at the restart immediately suffer another block and an ace of Lisinac (9-3). Weber finds the first cue with an ace on Zenger (13-9), allowing Padova to enter definitively in the match. Itas Trentino then restarts with momentum (18-10), taking advantage of a double error of Weber and a dink out of Loeppky. So, the run towards 1-0 is open for the yellow-blue (21-13, 23-15), who go quickly to the change of field on 25-17 (error of Bottolo at service).
The script doesn’t seem to change in the second set, with the hosts immediately ahead (6-2) thanks to the spikes of Kaziyski and Pinali. However, Padova has a jolt of pride with Loeppky and Bottolo, and closes the gap two times (6-6 and then also 10-9, after losing by 10-7); so, Itas Trentino has to suffer against an opponent that increases its solidity at service (13-15, three consecutive aces of Bottolo). Matey Kaziyski (three points for 16-16) fixes the score, but on 19-18 Michieletto suffers an injury at the right ankle, falling back badly after a conflict with Weber (he’s substituted by Lavia). Kioene takes advantage of the confusion of the hosts to go back to lead (20-22, ace of Vitelli); Lorenzetti calls a time-out and, at the restart, Kaziyski scores the tie (23-23). It goes to the bitter end: Itas Trentino cancels five set points of the opponents (28-28), before giving up to the set point of Weber for 28-30, which brings the match in a tie.
The strong reaction of the hosts is shown since the first moments of the third set, with Trento that goes immediately in advantage to the sound of attacks and services (4-2, 6-3, and 10-6), often scored by Daniele Lavia. Padova doesn’t falter: a block of Weber on Lavia closes the gap (14-13), and then it scores quickly with an ace of Petrov (on the field in place of Loeppky for 14-15). The game returns to be balanced and fought point-by-point (18-18 and 20-20), before a block of Vitelli on Lavia increases the gap (21-23, time-out of Lorenzetti). Trento redeems itself and gets even after a long action (23-23), but Kioene ends the set with a block of Canella on Kaziyski (24-26).
On 1-2 and against the wall, Itas Trentino tries to recover and again starts well after the change of field, working well at the net with Kaziyski (4-1) and at service with Podrascanin (8-3). In this case, Padova struggles to tie (11-6 and 15-10), also because the yellow-blue seem to be more incessant in the change ball phase. In view of the fifth set, Lorenzetti decides to substitute Kaziyski with Cavuto, who scores two consecutive points for 20-13 and, after a few minutes, Trento ends the set (22-16 and 25-16) with a block of D’Heer on Weber.
In the fifth set, the teams fight on every ball (2-3, 7-6), before Podrascanin scores the first double advantage with a block (8-6). Kaziyski pushes in attack (10-8) and defends +2 until 12-12 (pipe of Bottolo). It’s again a challenge to the advantages (15-15, 17-17), solved by a block of Petrov (17-18) and the yellow-blue intrusion on attack out of Weber (17-19).
