The fifth and decisive match of the 2022 SuperLega Credem Banca Scudetto Play Off semifinal series between Cucine Lube and Itas Trentino will be played on Wednesday 27 April at the Eurosuole Forum in Civitanova Marche at 8.30 pm. Three days after game 4 in Trento, which brought the match back to a draw, it's back to the court in the Marche region for the match that will give the winner access to the Final. HERE ITAS TRENTINO The Gialloblù team is facing yet another "in or out" appointment of their season: to continue the race for the Scudetto, they need a victory, which would allow them to reach the ninth Play Off Final in the history of Trentino Volleyball. Playing the play-off away will increase the difficulty, but Angelo Lorenzetti asks his team to face this match with a mind free from too heavy thoughts.
“Ever since we took a 2-0 lead in the series, we knew that the possibility of playing three more games with a strong, compact and never tamed opponent like Cucine Lube could be plausible and absolutely verifiable," explained the Itas Trentino coach as he presented the match ". Finding ourselves at 2-2 after losing the next two matches did not surprise us, because none of us had the illusion that we had already accomplished the hardest part of the task with the wins in the first two games. What awaits us on Wednesday is therefore a match to be lived to the fullest, in the knowledge that we have done a lot to get this opportunity and that we can put a great team like Civitanova in trouble even when we play in front of their public. I've asked the guys to be present in all the moments of the match in order to become protagonists when there are the right occasions to do so".
For game 5, the coach will be able to count on the entire roster of thirteen players, who left late today for the Marche region. On Wednesday morning, they will undergo the classic training session at the Eurosuole Forum that will precede the 132nd game in the Play Off Scudetto in the history of Trentino (77 wins and 54 losses).
SIXTEENTH PLAYOFF MATCH IN THE PLAYOFFS SCUDETTO In its nineteen Scudetto Play Off appearances, Trentino Volleyball has already played fifteen playoff matches, similar to the one that awaits it on Wednesday night in Civitanova, winning ten of them (the last one on April 10 at home against Piacenza in the quarterfinals). Never before, however, has a confrontation in the scoreboard with Civitanova required the last match of the series to settle the matter. In the previous duels spread over multiple matches, the challenge had always been decided in three (2017 Final) or four games (2010 Semifinals, 2019 and 2021). The only match from inside or outside played by the two formations in the Play Off was, in fact, the V-Day 2012 - won at the tie break by the Marche at the Forum of Assago. In the away matches, the balance of this type of match shows only one victory (in Modena in 2006) in a total of five occasions. The most frequent result was the tie break: six times out of fifteen, with three Gialloblù victories. For Trentino Volley, the match against Perugia will be the 942nd official match in its history, the 51st of the season.
OPPONENTS Cucine Lube Civitanova is hosting Itas Trentino for the fourth and final time this season, with the aim of confirming their home court advantage and obtaining the victory that would allow them to play in their fifth consecutive final. The Eurosuole Forum is getting ready to host another important event and will probably host the crowd of big occasions. During this season, the home team has won 14 out of 21 official matches played in the “friendly” facility.
THE BACKSTORY On Wednesday, the 88th meeting between the two teams will be played, the eighth of the season. The overall score is 50-38 for Lube, while the score for the current season is 4-3 for the Marches, who were able to conquer the BLM Group Arena for the first time this season at the third attempt on Sunday evening in game 4. At the Eurosuole Forum against the hosts, Itas Trentino has lost seventeen of the nineteen official matches played so far and two of the three played during the 2022 calendar year.
THE SERIE Civitanova and Trento are 2-2 in the Play Off Scudetto SuperLega Credem Banca 2022 semifinal series that ends on Wednesday, thanks to the double 3-0 win in game 1 on April 14 (partials 28-26, 25-20, 25-23) in the Marche region and game 2 on April 18 (scores of 25-20, 25-21, 25-23) at home against Itas Trentino, which Cucine Lube repeated on April 21 at the Eurosuole Forum with a 3-0 win at home (25-16, 25-19, 25-17) and on April 24 with a 3-1 win (25-19, 27-29, 22-25 and 22-25) in Trento. These results made the fifth and decisive play-off match necessary. Those who will pass the turn will find in the series of Final (best of five games, the first is scheduled already Sunday, May 1) the winner of Perugia-Modena, who will play their playoff match at the same time in Umbria.
THE REFERENCES The match will be directed by Stefano Cesare, first referee of Rome, and by Ilaria Vagni, second whistle of Perugia. For Cesare, in the top category since 1999 and international since 2010, this will be the nineteenth SuperLega match of the season. Two of these matches have already been played by Trentino Volley: a 3-1 home win over Civitanova on October 31 and a four-set loss in Bologna against Perugia on March 6 in the Italian Cup Final. For Vagni, in the Series since 2003 and international since 2014, fourteenth match of the season in SuperLega; five of these are referred to Trentino Volleyball, including just two in Civitanova (February 2, defeat in the tie break, and April 21, ko in three sets in game 3).
TV, RADIO AND INTERNET The challenge will be a global media event, enjoying simultaneous live coverage on TV, radio and internet. On the small screen it will be broadcasted by RAI Sport +, channel present on the digital terrestrial platform at number 58 with commentary by Maurizio Colantoni and Andrea Lucchetta.
