Laurenzano to "RTTR Volley": "Serginho and Grebennikov my role models"

The new libero Gabriele Laurenzano was a guest on the second seasonal episode of "RTTR Volley," the program that the yellow-blue’s media-partner RTTR broadcasts and dedicates to Trentino Volleyball every Monday. Here are some of the most interesting moments from the interview conducted by Sara Ravanelli.

WHAT A TIME. "What I’m leaving behind, it’s a very busy month but also full of satisfactions between the participation in the European Under 20 Championship in Montesilvano, eventually won, and the debut in SuperLega with Trentino Volley’s jersey. I experienced great emotions and achieved excellent results, also having to deal with tiredness but when you have the opportunity to play at a high level the enthusiasm overcomes everything else. Lorenzetti proposed me to take a breath for a few days, but I was too eager to dive into this new adventure therefore I declined."
THE WELCOME. "The Trentino public really gave me a wonderful welcome in the match with Siena. I strongly felt the cheering and the trust of the supporters and it was great that everyone wanted to greet me at the end of the match. It was a wonderful feeling."

FIRST IMPRESSION. "To play with Trento I immediately had to face some changes in my way of being on the court, both in terms of the reception and defense fundamentals. It might not have been an easy impact, but my teammates and the coach were good at putting me at ease right away and making me feel like part of the group.”

ADIGE DERBY. "Playing in Verona, against this WithU, was very difficult. However, our impact on the match was positive; afterwards their serve grew, managing to reverse the trend and putting us on the corner especially in reception. We knew that our opponents were very strong, but objectively we could have done more. Our defeat as well as Civitanova's defeat at home against Padova and Modena's 3-1 win over Piacenza confirm how high and balanced the level of this championship is; this is something that I believe makes everyone happy and motivated to give their best in every match".

ROLE MODELS. "When I started following volleyball, I was immediately struck by Serginho, the historical libero of Brazil; later on, I also looked up to Grebennikov. They are the two players I tried to take inspiration from".

NO DOUBT. "As soon as Trentino Volleyball sought me out,  it was a split-second decision. Being able to live alongside great champions and being followed by a coach like Lorenzetti has always been a goal of mine and I am happy to have achieved it so soon. Here I can only grow, taking into account that I will be able to play five different competitions, and two of them are international".

RECEPTION AND DEFENSE. "These are two different fundamentals, which demand different skills. In defense I use instinct more, while in reception the technique is used more. And on the latter I'm working really hard with coach Lorenzetti to improve and to always be at a good level. The most fearsome servers? Definitely Kaziyski, and I'm really happy now to have him on my side, but also Leon and Plotnytskyi are excellent service players".

PIACENZA. "On Sunday we will face another very demanding away match, also because we will play on the court of a team like Gas Sales Bluenergy, who started their championship with two defeats and will therefore be even more charged in chasing the first success of the season".
