Itas Trentino-Gas Sales Piacenza 1-3, the match report

Match report. Itas Trentino restarts from the same starting six seen on the court in the last part of 2022: Sbertoli serving, Kaziyski opposite, Michieletto and Lavia as hitters, Lisinac and Podrascanin as middle-blockers, Laurenzano as libero. The first line-up chosen by Massimo Botti as Piacenza's new technical guide includes Brizard at setter, Romanò opposite, Basic and Recine in place 4, Alonso and Simon in the middle and Scanferla as libero; Leal and Lucarelli are not on the roster. The guests got a better grip on the game (1-3, 2-5) thanks to a more incisive break point phase, including serving, block and quality defense, so much so that at 4-8 (Brizard's winning attack) Lorenzetti was forced to spend the first time-out of 2023.At the resumption, a flare-up by Kaziyski and Lisinac (block on Recine and counter-attack) put things right (7-9 and 11-11). The first points of the home advantage (13-11) are guaranteed by Michieletto (also exceptional on serve), then Itas Trentino stretches out and even gains a four-point lead with Lavia in evidence (18-14).Piacenza didn't take this lying down and with Gironi serving (two consecutive aces) they immediately regained parity, later putting the arrow in the lead with a counter-attack by Recine (18-19). This time, the interruption requested by Lorenzetti, who also inserted Džavoronok for the same Calabrese, did not produce the desired reaction; the Emilians again drew well from the bench (Cester's ace on Lavia) and flew to 19-23. Trento faltered, but with Podrascanin from the nine-meter line, they climbed back to within one (22-23), before giving way to Gas Sales Bluenergy (22-25). After the change of sides, Botti confirmed Gironi on the court for Basic, while Lorenzetti re-offered confidence to Lavia, who repaid him by leading the yellow-blue team reaction (5-3 and 9-6). It is then up to Sbertoli on serve to increase the margin (12-8), which Romanò almost sews up on his own (15-14) with two attacks and an ace. The new acceleration is signed by Podrascanin, who blocks Brizard and forces Gas Sales Bluenergy to hide in a time out (17-14). On the return, Michieletto scores (19-15 and 22-17), who single-handedly gives the opponents a lick to find a tie in the sets tally (25-19).The point-to-point duel restarts in the third set, with Itas Trentino trying to accelerate several times (5-3 and 8-6) but is punctually taken back by a Piacenza really very prompt in defense (5-5 and 8-8). The guests take advantage of three smudges by the hosts (Michieletto's invasion, Lisinac's attack error and Sbertoli's reach over foul) to find the lead in their turn (10-13, Lorenzetti calls time out). It was Podrascanin to the sound of blocks (four throughout the set) to lift his team to a new tie at 15. Romanò closes out a slash that is worth another outside +2 (16-18), then Lisinac sends out another first half (18-21), putting the yellow-blue team on the ropes again. Kaziyski's subsequent error after the timeout effectively ended the set early (18-22), earning Gas Sales Bluenergy the new lead (19-25).
Itas Trentino re-entered the court exhausted in the fourth set and immediately suffered a long pass with Simon at serve (2-4 to 2-8), with also two aces by the Cuban player and a couple of blocks made by the guests. On 3-8 Lorenzetti had already run out of time outs and alternated D'Heer to Lisinac, but without any concrete results. The yellow-blue team return to play their best volley only when Lavia goes at serve (8-11); on the court now there are also Nelli (instead of Kaziyski) and Pace (instead of Laurenzano), but the first string libero will soon be back on the mondoflex (12-15). Two consecutive aces by the Tuscan opposite brought the hosts back in the wake (16-17), but Recine's block on the same number 2 seemed to extinguish dreams of a comeback and a possible tie break (16-19). Piacenza, on the other hand, misses with the same Italian setter and Trento finds the unhoped tie at 20. Simon does it again with two more consecutive hit points (21-24) to close the game (21-25).
