Roeselare (Belgium), 11 January 2023
Champions League, in Belgium the first win of 2023 is also worth the outright lead in Pool

The mission was perfectly accomplished in Belgium for Trentino Itas. This evening at the Tomabel Hal in Roeselare, the yellow-blue lineup overcame the hosts of Decospan Vt Menen 3-0 without any particular problems, finding their first victory in the 2023 calendar year, the fifth in as many matches played in Pool D of 2023 CEV Champions League, which is also worth the final first place in the group and therefore direct qualification to the quarterfinals of the tournament. In fact, the victory obtained only at the tie break by Kedzierzyn-Kozle a few hours earlier in the Czech Republic against Karlovarsko, had offered a wonderful opportunity to Lorenzetti's team, which immediately catched it to close the match early.
Today's match in Flanders, faced without Captain Kaziyski (who remained in Trento to carry out a separated program in view of the next important commitments and replaced in this role by Podrascanin), did not reserve any big surprises, confirming the values that had already emerged in the first match, also won in three sets at the BLM Group Arena two months earlier. Also on that occasion, Lorenzetti had applied an ample turnover, a choice successfully made again today; especially the idea of betting on the physicality of Nelli, who rewarded the coach with a tremendous performance: 19 points, with two blocks and a resounding 17 out of 19 (89%!) at the net, with only one serve error and one block suffered. With the contribution guaranteed by the Tuscan player (who thus repeated the mvp award, already obtained in Trento against the same opponent), the task to complete became more easy, also because backing up the number 2 were Džavoronok (11 with 62%), Michieletto (9 with 60%) and the "prophet at home" D'Heer (60% with 2 blocks). The final 71% team score eloquently explains how dominant and aggressive the guests were throughout the match, deserving the success and the qualification.
Below is the scoreboard of the match valid for the fifth turn of the Pool D 2023 CEV Champions League played tonight at the Tomabel Hal Indoor in Roeselare.
