SuperLega, on Sunday back on court at the BLM Group Arena
The 17th round of the regular season of SuperLega Credem Banca 2022/23 is being played this weekend. After four consecutive away commitments between league and Champions League, Itas Trentino will be back at the BLM Group Arena, taking on Vero Volley Monza in one of the two matches scheduled for Sunday 29th January at 6 p.m. Live on Radio Dolomiti and live streaming on the OTT Volleyball World Tv platform.
HERE ITAS TRENTINO Putting aside for at least a month the talks related to the maximum continental tournament, the yellow-blue lineup resumes its three-week focus on the championship, facing the last match of the month of January.
"Sunday's match kicks off the final rush of the regular season; there are six games to go, and our goal must be to try to stay as high as possible in the standings," explained coach Angelo Lorenzetti, presenting the appointment, “The first test from this point of view is very demanding because Monza, which arrives in Trento, is a team in great shape, fresh from two important victories against Piacenza and Civitanova that will have given them further conviction in their own means. We will therefore have to immediately regain concentration and attention to detail because appointments like these are particularly delicate and full of pitfalls; we want to end a January full of commitments well".
The yellow-blue coach will only resolve his reservations about the possible use of Srecko Lisinac, who did not take part in the trip to Poland last week and trained on the sidelines due to a lower back problem seven days ago during the match in Civitanova Marche. The preparation for the match will be completed with this afternoon's training session and with Sunday morning's final training session. On Sunday, Trentino Volley will play the 973rd official match in its history, the 445th home match overall, and will be hunting for victory number 675 ever. In the current season the yellow-blue have already played 29 matches, picking up the victory in twenty circumstances and playing a total of 112 sets (72 won and 40 lost).
THE OPPONENTS So much in trouble in the first half of the season, as effective and in good shape in the second half, which is still ongoing. Vero Volley Monza will be at the BLM Group Arena on Sunday, fresh from four consecutive three-point victories, a roster that has allowed them to collect twelve points in the first five days of the downturn of the regular season: as many as they had collected in the first eleven rounds. From the twelfth day onwards, only Perugia was able to do better than the team coached by Massimo Eccheli; it was the Umbrians, by the way, who forced the Lombards to the only knockout in the last month and a half of the championship. Among the absolute protagonists of the good moment of Vero Volley, there are certainly the two place 4 hitters Maar (MVP of the last two matches) and Davyskiba, but also the Polish opposite Szwarc, who with 72 points in the four most recent matches has shown that he can excellently replace the injured Grozer. The Brianzoli can count on a very incisive service (the fourth of the entire category) and a block (the third of the tournament right behind Trento and Cisterna) that makes use of the skills of a great interpreter like Galassi (fourth blocker of SuperLega). The Italian middle-blocker, who grew up in the youth sector of Trentino Volley (with whom he has never made a first-team appearance), will be awarded before the match by the Sports Councillor of the Autonomous Province of Trento Roberto Failoni together with his three national team mates Lavia, Michieletto and Sbertoli for winning the 2022 World Championship title.
THE BACKGROUND Twenty-three official meetings have already been played between the two clubs, with the tally clearly favorable to the yellow-blue team (21-2), who have won the last six matches, including that of the first leg (3-0 in Monza on November 6th in the name of Kaziyski: 19 points and partials of 25-22, 25-20 and 30-28). The only victories of the Vero Volley are related to two tiebreaks, both won in Lombardy: on March 4th, 2018 and October 25th, 2020. At the BLM Group Arena on the other hand, Trentino Volley has always won: twelve times out of twelve official matches, with the Vero Volley winning just eight sets in these circumstances. The last appearance in the Fersina Street’s facility for Monza is dated January 16th, 2022: a 3-0 success for the yellow-blue team in the Coppa Italia quarterfinal. In the regular season, the most recent game played in the Fersina Street’s facility dates back to November 14th, 2021 (3-1).
THE REFEREES The match will be managed by the duo Giuseppe Curto (from Gorizia, in Serie A since 2013) and Michele Brunelli (from Falconara Marittina - Ancona, in the highest category since 2019), in their eighth and third matches of the season in SuperLega Credem Banca 2022/23, respectively. Only Curto boasts previous matches with Trentino Volley, in this championship he has already refereed the Adige derby on Boxing Day (3-0 home win against Verona). For Brunelli, on the other hand, this will be his first time ever with the yellow-blue team.
