SuperLega, on Sunday at BLM Group Arena the last round of the a22 Derby

The 22th and final round of the regular season of SuperLega Credem Banca 2022/23 is being played this weekend. Itas Trentino will be starring in the big match of the day, scheduled for Sunday, March 12th, hosting Valsa Group Modena at the BLM Group Arena in the traditional A22 derby. Kickoff is scheduled at 6 p.m.: live coverage on Radio Dolomiti and live streaming on RAI PLAY and OTT Volleyball World Tv platforms.
HERE ITAS TRENTINO The first phase of the championship of the yellow-blue lineup ends in front of its own audience, where it has not performed for exactly one month (last home match on February 12th against Perugia), and with one of the most followed home matches of the entire season. In this case the wait is double, as the match will award the final second place in the standings; to get it the hosts will need to win at least two sets. In the event of a 0-3 or 1-3 defeat, however, Kaziyski and his teammates would risk taking two steps backward, since should they be joined on 41 points by Civitanova (engaged in Perugia) they would be outdone by Lube for more wins and finish in fourth place.
"It is a match in which the many logics concerning the standings can take away energy" highlighted coach Angelo Lorenzetti as he presented the game; ”At the end of the first half of the season we were sixth in the standings, while now we have the opportunity to finish in second place overall but, at the same time, we will play to maintain the third place we had until last week and we cannot even hide the fact that there is the possibility of going down to fourth. We obviously want to get the best result possible, especially to seal a comeback that could not be taken for granted, but I am aware that all these thoughts are really too many for a single match. It is therefore good to focus exclusively on what we want to do on the court, in the knowledge that we will meet a team like Modena that during the season has acquired a great agonistic mentality and has greatly elevated its technical indexes; factors that have allowed it to always stay at the top."
Itas Trentino will come to the match with the entire team, on the strength of five wins in the last six regular season games. The preparation for the match will be completed with this afternoon's practice and Sunday morning's finishing practice at the BLM Group Arena. On this occasion Trentino Volley will play the 981st official match in its history, the 447th home match overall, and will seek for its 681 success ever. In the current season, the yellow-blue team is currently the Italian team that has played the most official matches: already 37, with 25 wins and a total of 145 sets.
THE OPPONENTS Valsa Group Modena will travel to Trento on Sunday to conclude a regular season that has seen it play a great role. The team coached by Andrea Giani is in third position, just one length behind Itas Trentino, and has been by far among the most regular in the entire championship, as evidenced by the 20 points won during the return leg: as many as those obtained in the first leg. During the previous twenty-one match days, its path was marked by excellent accomplishments such as the three-set win in Piacenza and the home victory, also 3-0, over Civitanova, which further strengthened its ranking. The numbers tell that the Emilian team is the best-receiving team and is close to the podium for blocks made (1.65 per set, Trento is third with 1.66). Among individuals, the one who shines the brightest is Turkish opposite Lagumdzija (best scorer in the league with 406 points and fifth ace man), but also young Rinaldi (39 serves points, second in the entire SuperLega), middle player Stankovic (fifth mason) and former Itas Trentino player Rossini (the fourth best receiver on average) have had a very positive season so far.
THE BACKGROUND Modena is the second opponent that has been faced the most times by Trentino Volley, in its twenty-two years of activity (the first one is Lube). On Sunday, the 82nd official match will be played. The total tally 47-34, is in favor of the Club of Trener street, also thanks to the three seasonal victories won in as many matches played, surprisingly all ended 3-1: the first match of this regular season played on October 27th, 2022 at PalaPanini; the quarterfinal of the Coppa Italia on December 28th, 2022; and the final for the third place of the Supercoppa on November 1st at PalaPirastu in Cagliari. The last match played in Trento, however, was won by the Emilians players, who won the match in the fifth set on February 6th, 2022, at the BLM Group Arena. The Fersina Street’s facility has shown the value of the home advantage in twenty-four of the thirty-four previous A22 derbies; the most recent home victory (3-0) dates back to December 9th, 2020.
THE REFEREES The match will be managed by the duo Umberto Zanussi (from Treviso, in the highest category since 2006) and Mauro Goitre (from Torino, in the highest category since 2008 and international one since 2016), in their thirteenth and fourteenth matches of the season in SuperLega Credem Banca 2022/23, respectively. Zanussi’s last previous match with Trento dates back to February 12th, 2022 (home defeat at tie break with Perugia), while for Goitre, the most recent match dates back to the Coppa Italia semi final in Rome (3-2 victory over Milan on February 25th).
