SuperLega, on Saturday the challenge with Piacenza is renewed: the match in numbers

The preparation of Itas Trentino men's team continues at the ilT quotidiano Arena, leading to the match that will see the Italian Champions face Gas Sales Bluenergy Piacenza (on Saturday, at 8:30 p.m.) for the fourth round of the Credem Banca SuperLega regular season 2023/24. The Gialloblùs held a double training session on Thursday (weights and individual technique in the morning, group work in the evening) to approach in the best shape possible the challenge that will see the only two teams still unbeaten in the league against each other.
This will be the eighth time in 2023 these two Clubs face each other; the previous matches were: a Coppa Italia Final, a five-game Play Off Semifinal series and a regular season match, similar to the one that will be played this weekend. The confrontation has very deep roots, as the statistics show: with 73 previous matches already on record, Piacenza is the third most frequently faced team in Trentino Volley’s history, only after Civitanova (95) and Modena (82). In details: 40 regular season matches, 28 in the Play Off Scudetto (including the Finals of the 2008, 2009, 2013 editions, the 2023 Semifinals and the 2005, 2021 and 2022 Quarterfinals), 3 in the Coppa Italia (2023 Finals, 2014 Semifinals and 2015 Quarterfinals) and 2 in the CEV Cup (2017 Quarterfinals).
The record is 49-24 in favour of the Club from via Trener, thanks in part to the long string of victories in recent years; since Piacenza returned to the top national league (in the 2019/20 season), it has won only six times in nineteen official matches. The very first match was played a little less than twenty-one years ago in Emilia: December 29, 2002, Copra Ventaglio Piacenza-Itas Grundig Trentino 0-3. MVP of the match was Andrea Sartoretti (18 points, 60% in attack, one block and two aces). At the time, the yellow-blue roster also included current Trentino Volley team manager Riccardo Michieletto.
