Champions, statistical notes after the 3-0 win in Ljubljana: 100th yellow-blue victory

Some yellow-blue statistics that emerged after Trentino Itas' 3-0 win in Ljubljana on Wednesday night against ACH Volleyball.

IN THE TOP EIGHT FOR THE 12TH TIME. The success obtained in Slovenia allowed Trentino Volley to directly qualify for the quarter-finals, avoiding the round of 16: this is the advantage guaranteed to the five teams that finish first in their respective pools. The Club of via Trener is therefore already sure to be among the top eight teams in Europe again this season, a result that had already been achieved eleven times in the past: editions 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2014, 2016, 2018, 2019, 2021, 2022 and 2023. Only in the 2013 edition were the yellow-blue eliminated earlier (round of 16, at the hands of Dinamo Moscow in the golden set in the round of 16).

ROUND NUMBER IN THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE. The one in Ljubljana was Trentino Volleyball's victory number 100 in the CEV Champions League. Over the course of its thirteen participations in the top European competition, the yellow-blue club has in fact played 128 matches, achieving success in 78% of the cases, with the following results: 59 times 3-0, 30 3-1 and 11 3-2. Only in the first edition in which it took part (2009) did it only win (12 out of 12).

ONE STEP AWAY FROM A RECORD OF 3-0 IN A ROW. The three-set victory in Ljubljana allowed Itas Trentino to extend their consecutive winning streak to 3-0. The italian champions have now put six in a row, also taking into account the victories with the same score obtained against Tours, in Padova, with Cisterna, Verona and in Taranto. The last set lost dates back to December 17th : the third set was lost by the narrowest of margins (23-25) in the 3-1 home win over Sir Susa Vim Perugia. After the December 10th ko in Modena, Trento won twenty-one of the twenty-two sets played in total thereafter. The streak of six 3-0 sets in a row is the second best ever in the history of Trentino Volleyball; only in the 2010/11 season did the yellow-blue club manage to do better: seven in a row, between October 28th 2010 and December 16th 2010, playing matches valid for the championship, the Champions League and the World Club Championship.

IN DOUBLE FIGURES.  Itas Trentino's block has been scoring with great regularity this season (181 points in 20 matches) and it does so especially when playing a Champions League match. In four of the five matches played in Pool B the Italian Champions went into double figures in this fundamental: 10 and 12 points against Ljubljana, 11 and 12 points against Tours; only against Rzeszow were there less than ten blocks (4 - worst performance of the season). More generally, Soli's team has scored at least ten blocks in half of the matches played so far in the 2023/24 season (10 out of 20).
