Itas Trentino overcomes Modena 3-2 in Montichiari: Astori Final vs Verona
The test quadrangular ‘Trofeo Ferramenta Astori’ in Montichiari opened with a tough but well-deserved victory for Itas Trentino men's team. In the first of the last two pre-season tests scheduled for the weekend at PalaGeorge, the European champions got the better of Modena in the semifinal, winning the A22 derby tonight 3-2 in a friendly version.
Beyond the result, which in any case was able to generate enthusiasm and confirm the positive trend of this first part of September (three victories in as many friendlies played), the most comforting indications came from the game expressed. The yellow-blue players showed moments of excellent volleyball, as in the final of the first set (won in a comeback) or for the entire duration of the second and fifth parts (commanded from start to finish with good personality), thanks also to a scoring streak at the net (55% team share in five sets) that compensated for the difficulties they had in scoring directly with the block (five times) and with the serve (8 aces, but all concentrated in the first half of the match). At the individual level, shined the understanding that Sbertoli has already perfected with Flavio (11 points with 67%) and Gabi Garcia (9 with 73% - who took over from an excellent Rychlicki - 17) and further cemented with the high-ball pair of Michieletto (18 with 50%) and Lavia (13 with 46%). Sunday afternoon, again in the Brescia area, the last official match of the pre-season preparation of Itas Trentino: at about 6 pm there will be the confrontation with Rana Verona (3-1 winner over Piacenza in the first semifinal of the quadrangular) that will award the first place of the tournament.
“Modena played a very good match, putting us to the test, but I think we can take a lot of useful indications from these five sets - commented Itas Trentino coach Fabio Soli after the match - . We had started very well, as we had promised ourselves we would, then we dropped in the third set as had happened to us on Wednesday night in Schio. A lesson we have to pick up, because we have to be able to play our volleyball even when can’t move as well as we would like. As in last season, however, our team has the ability to endure and this can still be our winning weapon”.
