SuperLega, again on the field at ilT quotidiano Arena on Sunday

The ninth round of the SuperLega Credem Banca 2024/25 regular season will take place this weekend. The Itas Trentino men's team will quickly return to play in front of their home crowd, hosting Mint Vero Volley on Sunday, November 24, at the ilT Quotidiano Arena for what has become a traditional matchup in the calendar year 2024 (the ninth challenge). The match is set to start at 5 PM, with live commentary available on Radio Dolomiti and paid live streaming on the OTT platforms VBTV and DAZN.
HERE ITAS TRENTINO The European Champion team once again welcomes the Brianzola squad, with whom they have had numerous closely contested and significant matches over the past eleven months, often involving qualifications for finals in Italian competitions. In this case, the match will "only" guarantee three points for the SuperLega standings, which would be particularly useful for the yellow blues to stay in touch with the league leaders Perugia (who will also be playing in Milan on the same day).
"Monza is a team in good form, going through its best moment of the newly started season, also because it has found a setup that guarantees the best quality of play" declared coach Fabio Soli during the presentation. "We are well aware of the abilities of setter Kreling and we already know that it will be very difficult to anticipate his intentions, especially when supported by good reception, further strengthened by the addition of Zaytsev. Therefore, great patience, particular tactical attention, and the ability to find continuity in the transition phase will be necessary; during break points, we will need to be adequately incisive with our serves to facilitate our block reading."
The Trentino coach will be without Romanian middle blocker Bela Bartha; in his place, the 2007-born outside hitter Leonardo Sandu, usually part of UniTrento Volley in Serie B, will be included on the roster again. The team will complete its preparation for the match with training this afternoon and a final session on Sunday morning. The encounter will mark the 1,057th match in yellow-blue history in the men's sector.
THE OPPONENTS The Mint Vero Volley arrives in Trento after an exciting week; following their brilliant victory in the previous round against Verona (3-1), the Brianzola team also triumphed on the court of Fenerbahce Istanbul in the second match of the Champions League group stage, confirming their lead in Pool B thanks to a previous comeback win over Olympiacos. Key contributors to these recent results have been outside hitters Zaytsev and Rohrs, who consistently score in double digits and provide significant support in the back row as well. With the inclusion of former Civitanova hitter in the starting lineup, coach Eccheli's team has found balance regarding the number of foreign players, allowing them to utilize American Averill at the net, who Brazilian setter Kreling is increasingly exploiting in attack. Among the most positive players during this phase of the season is also fellow outside hitter and captain Beretta, currently ranked third in the standings for winning blocks, tied with Flavio. The Brianzola roster also includes former player Juantorena, who has yet to play due to physical issues.
THE BACKGROUND With the match that will be played on Sunday, the official meetings between the two teams become thirty-eight in total. Only during this current calendar year, they have already faced eight times, in every possible Italian competition: regular season (one time), Play-Off Championship (Semifinal, five times), Italy Cup and Italian Super Cup competitions (for each one time). The report of the matches, played only in 2024, is 4-4, whereas the overall report is 30-7 for the Trentino Volley team.
In the first seventeen matches played in Trento, the gialloblù have always respected the field factor, losing only the last two matches at the tie break: on 7th and 14th April 2024, respectively in the 3rd and 5th game of the Play Off Championship semifinal. The only previous match of the season was on 21st September and it was won by Itas Trentino for 3-0 (25-20, 25-21, 25-23) at PalaWanny in Florence in the first match of this current competitive season.
THE REFEREES The match will be refereed by Michele Brunelli (from Falconara Marittima - Ancona, in Serie A since 2019) and Andrea Pozzato (from Bolzano, in Serie A since 2004), at first match of SuperLega refereed together in their career.
