Fivb Club World Championship, on Saturday night in Brazil italian semifinal derby
The semifinals of the Club World Championship 2024 will be played on Saturday, December 14 at the Arena Sabiazinho in Uberlândia (Brazil). Trentino Itas will be featured in the second game, facing Cucine Lube Civitanova, the runner-up in Pool A, in the Italian derby that will determine a spot in the Final the following day. The match is scheduled for 9 PM Italian time. Live broadcast on DAZN and VBTV.
HERE TRENTINO ITAS Having closed the first phase still in the early hours of Friday with the five sets played against Sada, the yellow-blue team now faces the team from Marche in yet another possible international final, similar to the last edition of the Champions League and even earlier in the Club World Championship 2021. The remake of the 2018 World Championship final and the 2021 semifinal starts without clear favorites, especially considering the 3-1 victory by Civitanova just two weeks earlier at the Eurosuole Forum in the match for the tenth round of SuperLega.
"I expect a great semifinal between two teams that are in good form at this specific moment of the season," said coach Fabio Soli. "In particular, Civitanova has shown significant growth and is full of energy and talent; the experience of the recent SuperLega match against this team gives us an idea of what to expect right from the first action. We will need to be present and good at containing their serve and physicality; as we promised ourselves before leaving for Brazil, we will try to express the best version of ourselves to have legitimate chances of reaching the final."
For Trentino Itas, this will be the 1,064th official match in its men's history, and they will be looking for their 742nd victory, which could allow them to play in a world final again two years after the last one (Betim, December 11, 2022).
TENTH WORLD SEMIFINAL FOR TRENTINO VOLLEY For the yellow-blue club, this will be the tenth semifinal in eleven total participations in the tournament that pits the top teams from around the globe against each other. Only in the 2014 edition did they fail to qualify for this stage, being eliminated in the group phase. This will be their twenty-first semifinal on the international stage, considering also the eight played in the Champions League (2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2016, 2021, 2022, and 2024) and the three in the CEV Cup (played in 2015, 2017, and 2019). Trentino Volley comes to this appointment with an enviable track record, having achieved forty-one victories in forty-nine matches in their eleven participations in the world competition. Their overall international record stands at 182 victories in 226 matches.
THE OPPONENTS Cucine Lube Civitanova returns to the Club World Championship semifinal three years after their last appearance. On that occasion, it was December 10, and the match was also held in Brazil (in Betim), where they faced Trentino Volley on the other side of the net, losing to them in a tie-break 21-19, before then losing the Final the next day against the hosts Sada Cruzeiro. The red-and-whites arrive at this appointment with the same track record as Trento (two three-point wins and one tie-break loss, second place in Pool A), having had to wait until Saturday morning to secure qualification thanks to their 3-1 victory over Egypt's Al Ahly. This is the fifth participation in the Club World Championship for the club from Marche, boasting one victory (2020 edition) and three second places; whenever they have participated in the tournament, they have always reached the Final.
THE BACKGROUND The match will be between two of the six Italian clubs that have already signed their name in the competition’s Hall of Fame: the others four are Parma, Milan, Ravenna and Perugia (two times outgoing champion).Civitanova is also the opponent that Trentino Volley has faced the most times in its history:
100 times (45 victories and 55 defeats), recently updated by the Lube’s 3-1 victory of Lube in the regular season match on December 1st at the Eurosuole Forum in Civitanova (Marche). This will be the thirteenth international competition in history, taking into account ten previous matches in the Champions League and two in the Club World Cup: on 2nd December 2018 in Czestochowa, a 3-1 victory by Trento, in that case, in the Final, and on 10th December 2021, Lube's victory at the tie break in the semifinals in Betim.
