SuperLega, what a Sunday! Itas Trentino conquers Perugia thanks to an epic tie break

After PalaPanini, also the PalaBarton. The 2025 year for the Itas Trentino men's team continues with many away game victories in courts that are historically arduous for the Gialloblù. This evening, the European Champion team was in top form for the second half of the Credem Banca SuperLega season (marked by only victories), hitting the target: forcing the reigning champions Sir Susa Vim Perugia to the first stop of the season, right in front of its public, in an epic match that lasted two hours and forty minutes, with a tie break that ended 22-24 after forty minutes of play. The Umbrians' streak of twenty-three consecutive victories, which had lasted since last April, was wiped out thanks to the Gialloblù's constant comeback victory in the regular season summit clash scheduled for the sixteenth round. A result that reopens the race for the first place in the standings (still in the hands of the Block Devils, who have a four-point advantage but also one match more played), a synonym of the character and the desire not to give up, never. Under for 0-1, then 1-2 and also 11-13 in the fifth set, Fabio Soli's team has always found the strength to recover and restart, engaging during the fifth set a strenuous and exhilarating game as an arm wrestling with the opponents, in which everything happened, including players who had to leave the court due to cramps (Plotnytskyi, Ishikawa and Sbertoli) and match balls cancelled in Perugia (ten consecutive, between 12-14 and 22 even). In the end, Trentino's courage was rewarded with the 24-22 final that provided more than just two points for the standings. The 17 winning balls of Bela Bartha (absolute mvp with 68% in the first half, three blocks and one ace), the 22 of Michieletto (best scorer of the match) and the double-digit ball number reached also by Flavio and Lavia (12 each) thanks to Itas Trentino’s amazing blocks (16 winners) are, in fact, only some of the most important statistical data of a match and a victory that will remain in history more for the emotions given to the 5,000 spectators present than for the absolute statistical meaning of the result.

Below is the match summary for the sixteenth round of the SuperLega Credem Banca 2024/25 regular season, played this evening at PalaBarton in Perugia.
