SuperLega, on Sunday the final round of the regular season

The twenty-second and final round of the SuperLega Credem Banca 2024/25 regular season will be played entirely on Sunday, March 2. The men's Itas Trentino team will be on stage at the Kioene Arena in Padova to face the home team, Sonepar Padova. The match is scheduled to start at 6:00 PM, with live commentary on Radio Dolomiti and a paid live stream on the OTT VBTV platform.
ITAS TRENTINO REPORT The yellow-blue team opens the month of March (which will see them still engaged on two fronts, the championship, and the CEV Cup) with the possibility of finishing in first place in the regular season for the second consecutive season. To surpass their direct competitor Perugia at the finish line, who has the same number of points (54) and victories (19) but a better set ratio, it will be necessary to win their match by the maximum possible margin and hope that Piacenza can take at least one set from Sir Susa Vim in the match at PalaBanca.
"We have done a lot during this season to reach a position where we can play for our chances of first place in the standings until the last matchday and we want to do our part until the end, aware that it will not only depend on our result in Padova," explained coach Fabio Soli during the presentation. "We will take to the field to express our best volleyball, considering that we will play in a traditionally challenging venue and that we will face a team that can approach the match with a free mind, having already secured salvation in the previous round of the championship. Padova has fully deserved their confirmation in SuperLega and has always played an organized and effective game: it will, therefore, be a really good challenge."
The yellow-blue coach will only have to do without the fourth spiker, Bristot, who is still dealing with a shoulder problem that will see him don the second libero jersey again. The team will complete their preparation for the match with a training session in the early afternoon at the ilT quotidiano Arena, before departing for Padova. On this occasion, Trentino Volley will play their 39th official match of the season, the 23rd away game, the 1,083rd match overall, and will seek their 440th regular-season victory in their history.
THE OPPONENTS Having mathematically secured their place in the league in the previous weekend, despite a 1-3 loss in Verona, and already certain of not being able to participate in the Playoff Scudetto, Sonepar Padova awaits the visit of the European Champions to close their regular season with a match that historically attracts a large audience at the Kioene Arena. Coach Cuttini's team can play without any pressure and with the aim of delivering another great result to their fans, as has often happened in this championship. At home, the Padovans have built much of their success, earning a point against Perugia and Piacenza and two points against Civitanova and Modena, all teams ahead of them in the standings. Much of the credit for another season in the top league goes to the excellent performances of the trio of high ball players, well set up by the experienced setter Falaschi; opposite hitter Masulovic (309 points) and spikers Sedlacek (302 points) and Porro (294 points) are all in the top ten scorers of the championship, while in the middle of the net the young Crosato (eighth blocker of the tournament) has taken full advantage of the opportunity to wear a starter's jersey throughout the season.
MODENA OR CISTERNA, THE OPPONENTS IN THE SCUDETTO QUARTER PLAY-OFF In the Scudetto Play Off, which will take place on the following weekend (8-9 March), Itas Trentino is already certain to play three of the five quarterfinal games between the familiar walls of ilT daily Arena, because it will definitely occupy one of the first four positions. The yellow-blues rank themselves, depending on the results that will emerge Sunday, in first or second place, and then in the quarters would face respectively the eighth or seventh force of the tournament. Only two options regarding the name of the opponents which could be challenged: Cisterna (currently eighth with 23 points) or Modena (seventh with 26 points). Much like Trento and Perugia, Cisterna and Modena can also exchange their positions in the standings on the final day of the regular season: the Valsa Group will be in Milan, while the players from Lazio will be in Monza.
THE BACKGROUND Trentino Volley and Pallavolo Padova have already played forty-four matches, a number that places the Veneto Club in eighth place of the rankings of the opponents most often faced by the yellow-blues, behind Lube (103), Modena (89), Piacenza (77), Perugia (57), Cisterna (50), Verona (49) and Cuneo (47). The balance is clearly in favor of Trento, who won in thirty-six circumstances, but the Venetians have pushed through in four of the last twelve games played, including in one of the most recent ones played in Trentino (1-3, March 3rd, 2024). In twenty-one official matches played at the Kioene Arena, the locals have won only four times, the last on the 7th of April 2019 for 3-0 in game 2 of the Scudetto Play Off quarter-finals. Trentino volley’s most recent victory in Patavina territory therefore dates back to the last appearance, on the 26th of December 2023 (0-3 with partials of 20-25, 32-34, 22-25). In the first leg of this season, Trento went 3-1 again (27th November, 25-19, 23-25, 25-23, 25-19).
THE REFEREES The direction of the match will be entrusted to Maurizio Canessa (from Bari, in major league since 2009) and Ubaldo Luciani (from Chiaravalle - Ancona, in role since 2009), at the sixth conjoined SuperLega game in their career. Canessa is on his eighth season match in the league; three of these are related to Trento, which always won: 3-2 home on Grottazzolina on 19 January, 3-1 away in Taranto on 22 December and 3-1 home with Verona on the 10th of November. Luciani is on his ninth seasonal role as referee in the regular season, the first compared to Itas Trentino, which he did not referee anymore since the 15th of January 2023 (defeat at the tie break in Cisterna di Latina), paired once again with Canessa.
RADIO AND INTERNET The match will be recorded in a live report by Radio Dolomiti, media partner of Trentino Volley. The frequencies to listen to the regional network are available on the website www.radiodolomiti.com, where it will also be possible to follow the radio news live in streaming as well.
Live streaming video on the platform OTT "VBTV" was also confirmed; the service is paid. On television a summary will be broadcast on Monday 3 March at 21.40, on RTTR - media partner of Trentino Volley.
