SuperLega: first place in the regular season!

On the final stretch of the last kilometer, the Itas Trentino men's team overtook Perugia, claiming victory in the 2024/25 SuperLega regular season. The comeback, which started in the second half of the season against the reigning champions who had a three-point lead at the end of the first half, was completed this evening thanks to a 3-0 win at the Kioene Arena in Padua in the match valid for the twenty-second and last round of the championship. Due to the set lost by the Umbrians on the court of Piacenza, the yellow-blue team closed the standings ahead of their rivals thanks to a better set quotient, with equal points and number of victories.
This allows Soli's team to enter the grid of the upcoming Scudetto Play Offs as the number 1 seed and have three out of the five matches in each round to be played at the ilT Quotidiano Arena, starting with the quarterfinal against Cisterna (eighth place), which will begin next Saturday in Trento. To achieve, for the second consecutive year, their ninth all-time, the final top spot in the Italian championship season standings, Itas Trentino had to suffer for at least two sets tonight in Veneto—the first won in overtime and the third resolved in the final rush—but always gave the impression of having the situation under control even in the few difficult moments. With a blazing Rychlicki at the net (20 points with 67% in attack and two blocks: another MVP title) and a revitalized and solid Kozamernik (back in the starting lineup and scoring 10 winning balls with 3 blocks, 2 aces, and 83% in attack), the yellow-blue team managed to get the better of a Padua team that lived on the bursts of Porro and Sedlacek but never managed to reverse the trend. The contributions of Michieletto and Flavio and the clear-headed direction of Sbertoli allowed them to achieve the incredible yet well-deserved final overtaking.

Below is the scoreboard of the advance match of the twenty-second round of the SuperLega Credem Banca 2024/25 played tonight at the Kioene Arena in Padua.
