Play Off Scudetto, on Sunday Game 2 of the quarter finals

Game 2 of the Play Off Scudetto SuperLega Credem Banca 2025 Men's quarter-finals will be played on Sunday, 16th March in Lazio. Itas Trentino will be on court for the second time this season at the sports hall in Cisterna di Latina, aiming for another victory to get closer to qualifying for the semifinals, as they are leading 1-0 in the series, which is set at the best of five games. The match is scheduled to start at 6pm, live on RAI Sport, Radio Dolomiti, and live streaming on the OTT platform "VBTV".
HERE ITAS TRENTINO Saturday night's victory in front of the home crowd allowed the European Champions to start their Playoffs on the right foot and now they can look to this weekend’s away match with more confidence. Sbertoli and his teammates will try to give an encore to further address the match on the eve of the trip to Turkey for the return semifinal of the 2025 CEV Cup.
“The result of Game 1 is now part of the past, we must focus only on the second match of the series - highlighted coach Fabio Soli during the match’s presentation - . On Sunday in Cisterna di Latina an even more challenging match awaits us, because we play on a traditionally very difficult court and we’re coming off five sets of pure battle against Ankara just last Wednesday.  I am convinced that our opponents will try to push even harder with their serving, to improve their blocking and defense, which are crucial for an effective break point phase. We need to play good volleyball, show patience and determination as we face a match that will definitely be a continuous point-by-point battle.”
The Trentino team will arrive in Lazio this evening, after training at ilT quotidiano Arena in Trento this morning and traveling by train. Game 2 of the quarter-finals of the Play Off Scudetto will be the 42nd match of the season for the Gialloblù: their record stands at 34 victories (four of them obtained just against Cisterna) and 7 losses. The match in Lazio will be the 156th match in Gialloblù's history in the Play Off Scudetto (92 victories and 63 losses), the 65th ever in the quarter-finals. In the previous twenty-one first-round appearances, Trentino Volleyball has won the second match of the series twelve times; the last occasion was in Modena, on 10th March 2023.
THE OPPONENTS Sunday's match will be a historic one for Cisterna Volley, regardless of the outcome. In fact, it will be the first home Playoff game for the new club that took over the sports title of Top Volley Latina in the summer of 2023. Playoff matches return to Lazio after two years, since the last time the region hosted them (in the previous season, the biancoblù team finished ninth). Coach Falasca's team will aim to score the first victory to ensure another challenge of the series in Lazio. To lead his team to the assault of Trento there will be the opposite spiker Theo Faure, already the best player in Game 1 (15 points) and that before the whistle will receive the award of mvp of February month of the Italian championship. The French player got it thanks to two titles of best player in the individual games he won against Taranto and Grottazzolina, to which are added 80 personal points achieved in the five matches played in the month in question. Faure follows Alessandro Michieletto, who won the award in January and will face him again on the opposite side of the net in this match.
PREVIOUS MATCHES On Sunday, the fifth seasonal matchup between the two teams will take place. They have already faced each other on September 29 in Cisterna di Latina and three consecutive times at the ilT quotidiano Arena in Trento (December 29, February 19, and March 8), with Itas Trentino winning every time. Over four matches, Trentino has conceded only two out of fourteen sets to their opponents. The total count of fifty-one matches played sees Trentino Volley leading 41-10. However, the Lazio team has won two of the last five previous matches in front of their home crowd: 3-0 on March 20, 2022 (the final game of the 2021/22 regular season), and 3-2 on January 15, 2023. The yellow and blue tradition remains largely favorable at the sports hall in Cisterna di Latina, with five wins in seven games played overall.
THE SERIES Itas Trentino leads the quarterfinal series 1-0, which is best-of-five, thanks to a 3-0 win in Game 1 at ilT quotidiano Arena on March 8, with scores of 25-23, 25-19, and 25-14. Game 2 will be played on Sunday, which could be the only match held in Cisterna di Latina if the Soli team wins the next two matches, including Game 3 on March 23 in Trento (at 3:30 PM). However, if the Latina team wins at least one of the next two matches, Game 4 will also be necessary, scheduled for March 26 in Lazio at 8:30 PM. The winner will face the winner of the Verona-Piacenza quarterfinals in the semifinals (also best-of-five, starting on April 6), with the Emilians currently leading 1-0 (Game 2 at PalaBanca on Sunday). On the same day, Game 2 of the lower bracket quarterfinals will also be played: Milano-Civitanova (1-0) and Modena-Perugia (0-1).
THE REFEREES The match will be officiated by Gianluca Cappello (from Sortino, Siracusa, refereeing in Serie A since 2004) and Giuseppe Curto (from Gorizia, officiating since 2013), marking their sixth joint match in the SuperLega and their fourth this season. Cappello will be refereeing his eleventh match in the league; one of these was against Trentino Volley (3-1 at home in Grottazzolina on November 3, also refereed with Curto). Curto will be officiating his fifteenth match in the SuperLega this season and will face Itas Trentino again after the 3-1 match against Cisterna on December 29 (the only home match in the Italian Cup quarterfinals). Neither of the referees has previously officiated a match between Cisterna and Trento.
