On Sunday in Piacenza Game 2 of the 2025 Scudetto Playoff Semifinals

Game 2 of the Scudetto SuperLega Credem Banca 2025 Playoff Semifinals will take place on Sunday, April 13, at the PalaBancaSport in Piacenza. Itas Trentino will face Gas Sales Bluenergy, leading the series 1-0 in a best-of-five format. The match is scheduled to start at 6 PM and will be broadcast live on RAI Sport, Radio Dolomiti, and streamed on OTT platforms DAZN and VBTV.
HERE ITAS TRENTINO After the sprint victory in game 1 last weekend, the yellow-blue team heads to Emilia aiming to repeat the success, in order to gain a double advantage and approach the second part of the series with greater chances of advancing to the next round.
"The victory achieved in the first game of the series was very important, but we know well that in the Play-Offs every match is unique, and on Sunday we will face an even tougher challenge," explained coach Fabio Soli during the presentation of the event. "We will play against a team in great form, demonstrating highly effective volleyball; for this reason, it is clear that we will encounter greater challenges and obstacles, which are, however, normal in the Semifinals of the Italian championship. I am convinced that our level of focus will be crucial as a driving force in this match and as a tool to improve ourselves further. We will need consistency and clarity throughout the duration of the match, which will be characterized by extreme intensity."
The Trentino team will finalize preparations for the event with this afternoon's training at the ilT Quotidiano Arena and Sunday morning's session on the court, where they will appear in full force.
NINE WINS AND SEVEN LOSSES IN PREVIOUS GAME 2 OF SEMIFINALS Trentino Volley has already played sixteen Game 2 matches of the Play Off Scudetto Semifinals (out of twenty-one total participations), achieving nine wins and seven losses. The victories include: a 3-0 win in the 2008 series in Rome, a 3-2 win in the 2009 series in Cuneo, a 3-2 win in the 2010 series in Macerata, a 3-0 win in the 2012 series in Frosinone against Latina, a 3-2 win in the 2013 series in Cuneo, a 3-2 win at home against Perugia in 2018, a 3-0 win in Trento against Civitanova in 2022, a 3-0 win in Piacenza in 2023, and a 3-1 win in Monza in 2024. As for the statistics, Sunday’s match will mark the yellow-blue team’s 47th match of the season (37 wins and 9 losses), their 1,091st official game for the men's sector, and their 159th match in the Play Off Scudetto. In this competition, the Club from Via del Brennero can boast 96 wins, including 30 victories (out of 74 games played) achieved on the road.
THE OPPONENTS Gas Sales Bluenergy is ready to host its third Semifinal Play Off Scudetto match in its young history. The only two previous semifinal matches for the club, which has inherited the legacy of Copra Volley over the past six years, were played exclusively against Trentino Volley in the 2023 series: a 1-3 loss on April 16th and a 3-0 victory six days later. As before, the goal for the Emilia-based team is to secure a tie in the series, guaranteeing another game in front of their home crowd during the Easter period.
The away loss in game 1 has reinforced the importance of home advantage, leaving the red-and-whites no choice but to defend their ground to avoid heading back to Trento on Thursday, April 17th, facing a 0-2 deficit. For Gas Sales Bluenergy, which has participated in the final brackets of the top-tier Italian championship since the 2020/21 season, Sunday will mark their 24th ever match in the Play Off Scudetto (record: 11 wins and 12 losses). Remarkably, ten of these matches have been against Trento, which emerged victorious in seven instances (two of them in Emilia).
For the occasion, a "sold-out" has already been announced as of Thursday, with over 3,400 spectators expected.
PREVIOUS MATCHES The rivalry between Trentino Volley and the team from Piacenza has deep roots, as the statistics clearly show: 78 previous encounters have already been played (only Civitanova with 103 and Modena with 89 have more), broken down into 44 regular season matches, 29 in the Scudetto Play Offs (including the Finals in 2008, 2009, and 2013, the semifinals in 2023 and 2025, and the quarterfinals in 2005, 2021, and 2022), 3 in the Italian Cup (2023 Final, 2014 Semifinal, and 2015 Quarterfinal), and 2 in the CEV Cup (2017 Quarterfinals).
The overall record favors Trentino, with 54 wins to Piacenza’s 24, partly thanks to a strong run of victories in recent years. Since Piacenza returned to the top-tier national league in the 2019/20 season, they have only managed six wins in twenty-four official meetings. Sunday’s match will be the 35th official match Trentino Volley has played in Piacenza, where they have already won 21 times. The first-ever encounter took place on December 29, 2002, and ended in a 3-0 win for Trento at PalaFranzanti, where Trento also played the next two matches. Trentino’s debut at PalaBancaSport—where the teams will meet again on Sunday—came exactly twenty years ago, on April 7, 2005, in the opening match of a Scudetto Play Off quarterfinal series, where Itas Diatec triumphed 3-1 over the team coached at the time by Travica.
Since then, Trentino Volley has played at that venue 32 more times, winning on 17 additional occasions, most recently on November 17 with a 3-1 victory (eighth round of the regular season). In the Scudetto Play Offs alone, Trentino Volley has played twelve matches at PalaBanca, winning four, including the most recent one in Game 2 of the 2023 semifinal series (3-1 on April 16).
THE SERIES Itas Trentino leads the best-of-five Scudetto Play Off semifinal series 1-0, following their 3-2 victory on April 6 at ilT quotidiano Arena, with set scores of 25-23, 23-25, 25-21, 23-25, and 18-16. Game 2 is set for Sunday, and it could be the only match played in Emilia if the yellow-blues manage to win this and the next game (Game 3), scheduled for Thursday, April 17 in Trento (8:30 PM). If Piacenza wins at least one of the next two matches, Game 4 will be necessary and will be played again at PalaBancaSport, either on Easter Sunday or Easter Monday. The winner of the series will advance to the Final (also a best-of-five series), starting April 27, where they will face the winner of the Perugia–Civitanova semifinal. Perugia currently leads that series 1-0 (Game 2 to be played tonight in the Marche region).
THE REFEREES The match will be officiated by Dominga Lot (from Santa Lucia di Piave – Treviso, in Serie A since 2010 and an international referee since 2017) and Michele Brunelli (from Falconara Marittima – Ancona, in Serie A since 2019 and an international referee since 2022), officiating a SuperLega match together for the first time in their careers. This will be Lot’s 14th match in the league this season; three of those involved Trentino Volley: a 3-0 win over Milano on December 26, a 3-2 win in Perugia on January 12, and a 3-1 win over Civitanova on February 22. She is the only referee of the two to have previous experience with a Trento–Piacenza match, including a 3-1 win by the Emilia team on October 16, 2022, at PalaBanca.
Brunelli will be officiating his 10th match in the 2024/25 season and has already refereed Trentino twice this year: a 3-1 win in Milano on October 13 and a 3-0 home win against Monza on November 24.
TV, RADIO & INTERNET COVERAGE The match will be a global media event, with live coverage available across all major platforms. It will be broadcast live on RAI Sport, available on digital terrestrial channel 58, and also via the "Rai Play" app.
Live radio commentary will be provided by Radio Dolomiti, Trentino Volley's media partner. Frequencies for listening are available at www.radiodolomiti.com, where the match will also be streamed live.
Live video coverage will be available on OTT platforms DAZN and VBTV (both are subscription-based services).
A match highlights program will also air on RTTR, Trentino Volley’s TV partner, on Monday, April 14 at around 9:45 PM.
Point-by-point live updates will be provided on the Lega Pallavolo Serie A website (www.legavolley.it) and on Trentino Volley’s official site (www.trentinovolley.it), with regular updates also available on their social media channels: www.trentinovolley.it/instagram and www.trentinovolley.it/twitter.
