Trento, September 23rd, 2015
Ital-Trent will partecipate to the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro in 2016 thanks to the success (the tenth in eleven games) of this morning in Tokyo against Poland in the last round of the 2015 World Cup. The 3-1 obtained against the World Champions has not allowed the Azzurri to win the tournament (went to the prerogative of the US) but still offered second place to the National and therefore also one of the twelve places of the Olympic tournament that will be played in Brazil between August 5th and 21st, 2016.
The qualification has the signature of five Trentino players: the setter Simone Giannelli, the libero Massimo Colaci, the spikers Filippo Lanza and Oleg Antonov and the physiotherapist Davide Lama. The first three have played the entire tournament guaranteeing always a performance of the highest level, as happened also this morning against the Poles World Champions: Colaci directed the entire second line masterfully between perfect receptions and exceptional defenses (11 in four sets!), Giannelli was confirmed baby-prodigy remaining polished and cold even in the most difficult moment of the match (between the second and third set), Lanza has shown the entire repertoire of shots between hands-out, aces, defenses and powerful attacks.
A great pride for Trentino Volley that has grown in its youth sector two of the three yellow-blue regulars (Giannelli and Lanza are products of the training ground) and launched at high levels even Colaci. Argentina instead reached the fifth place, where Solè finished the tournament with the great satisfaction of being the best blocker of the event thanks to 34 blocks point (average of 0.81 per set) and have received the award for best middle-blocker.
