PalaTrento is an unassailable fortress. During the river Adige derby of the 22nd day of 2016/2017 SuperLega UnipolSai regular season, Diatec Trentino has confirmed the second position in the rank, defeating by 3-0 Calzedonia Verona after a match that was more uncertain and hard-fought than what the result might let think. After six consecutive wins, the team coached by Nikola Grbic had to stop its positive streak against the home team that once again showed some of the best volleyball in front of the home crowd. Eighteen days after the last match in PalaTrento, the feeling with the supporters was quickly reinstalled and the team fought hardly giving the fans two sets of intense challenge: in the first set the two teams played point by point until the very end; also the third one was breathtaking, with Verona able to come back from a 19-15 disadvantage. In the second set, though, Trentino ruled the game with a solid performance in the block fundamental ( 17 total blocks) and thanks to opposite Jan Stokr. With 19 personal points, 4 aces and 2 blocks, the Czech giant player was by far the best player on court and often found a solution to difficult situations. Van de Voorde and Giannelli (5 blocks each) also helped to compensate the not very enthusiastic performance of the wing spikers; therefore, Kovacevic and Djuric couldn’t make a difference for their team and Calzedonia surrendered and left three points to Trentino.
