Trento, March 15th 2017

The qualification to the semi-final of 2017 CEV Cup, reached tonight, allows Trentino Volley to be one of the best four teams in a continental competition for the third time in a row. The next step in order to reach the last match is a competition between a team that has never confronted Trentino Diatec.

In the fifth turn (only double matches with direct elimination until the final), the yellow-blue team will confront Fenerbahce Istanbul from Turkey. The two teams have never confronted each other during the 17 years of activity for Trentino Volley. The team from Turkey tonight has achieved the semi-final, winning against the French team Ajacco. The first match is scheduled between March 28th and 29th at PalaTrento, the away match between April 1st and 2nd.

We will have to wait the confirmation of the Clubs to schedule date and time of the match. Each Club has in fact agreements with the respective national federations and CEV. For the Club in via Trener it will be the third match against a Turkish team so far, after the matches played against Halkbank Ankara (eight finals of 2005 CEV Cup) and Arkas Izmir (first round of 2014 Championship).

As it happened in the thirty-two finals, sixteenth finals, eighth and quarter finals, the team that scores the greatest number of points during the double round will pass to the next one – as for SuperLega - 3 points for victory for 3-0 and 3-1, 2 for victory for 3-2 and 1 for defeat for 2-3. The golden set (the tie-breaker set to be played until 15 at the end of the second match) will be played only in case of points tie.

The identikit of the opponents of Trentino Diatec

Fenerbahce, historic team from Istanbul (main financial, cultural and industrial city of Turkey), is the most important sports club of the country with millions of fans all over the world and with teams in various disciplines. The volleyball team was established in 1976, after almost fifty years, in which the Yellow-black Club played intermittently (1927-1935, 1941, 1946-1947, 1952-1971).

The sports club has invested in this discipline, especially in the last decade, with the presence of many foreign players who had been protagonists in the Italian championship for many years. The four titles won (together with the nine titles of the Istanbul League, the championship that until the early 1990s saw only the teams of this city play) arrived between 2008 and 2012. In addition to this titles there are three Turkish Cups (the last one has been won during this season, 3-1 in the final against Halkbank Ankara).

The team of the French coach Basic is now at the first place in ranking in its national league with six points of advantage on Halkbank itself, thanks to seventeen victories in twenty regular season matches. Fenerbahce hasn’t concede a single set to the opponents also in its CEV Cup path, in which the Turkish team is playing for the third time in its history after achieving only one time the qualification to the round of sixteen, gaining 3-0 victories versus the Israelian team of Mate-Asher Akko, the Bulgarian team of Levski Sofia and the French team of Ajaccio.         Fenerbahce most important international moments are the victory of Challenge Cup 2014 (achieving the first place in the finals versus Latina) and the two victories in Coppa dei Balcani (in 2009 and 2013).

The most important players of the team are the Slovenians Sket (Modena and Molfetta former spiker) and Pajenk (Verona and Lube former Middle-blocker) and the French Quesque (Monza and Modena former player) but also Keskin (setter and captain) and Toy (strong opposite), who play both in Turkey national team, are absolutely high-value players.

Usual starting six: Keskin (setter), Toy (opposite), Quesque-Sket (spikers), Emet-Pajenk (middle-blockers), Ozbek (libero)
