Trento, December 23rd 2016

SuperLega UnipolSai 2016/17 won’t stop during Christmas time and on Boxing Day there will be the third round of home matches, the sixteenth in total. Diatec Trentino will be able to  play in front of its supporters on Monday December 26th against Kioene Padova. The match will start at  PalaTrento at 6 p.m, with live coverage on Radio Dolomiti and live streaming on Lega Volley Channel at this link www.sportube.tv.
HERE DIATEC TRENTINO After achieving the second place in the ranking list thanks to the points gained a week ago against Sora, the Yellow-blue will try to achieve another victory to qualify in the high part of the ranking list and keep at distance Perugia, which in the last weeks was able to emerge and reach one length of distance. The team will arrive at the match of the championship the day after Christmas after training for an entire week, that Coach Angelo Lorenzetti exploited to prepare in the best way a match that he considers delicate.
It will be a difficult commitment, we have to handle it with delicacy – explains- ; perhaps Padova had in the last period underwent some physical problems but has anyway lost its distinctive qualities. It is a team that plays Volleyball quite like us, focused on speed, defence and incisive service. Therefore we will have to pay attention and be focused also in the approach to the match because inevitably playing after Christmas day can cause some distractions. But we are working very well at the gym every day and I feel confident even if at the moment things come less naturally than in the past”.
Diatec Trentino will complete its preparation for the match during the weekend, through a weight session on Saturday December 24th and a ball session on the late afternoon of Christmas Day; trainings that will be useful to the coach from Marche to decide what kind of starting six will play on court.
IT WILL BE THE EIGHTH MATCH OF THE YELLOW-BLUE HISTORY ON BOXING DAY Playing on the day after Christmas has become over the years a pleasant habit for Diatec Trentino, which has already played seven times on Boxing Day in sixteen previous seasons; the balance of the matches played on Boxing Day sees yellow-blues victorious in five occasions: 3-1 versus Verona in 2005, 3-0 versus Treviso in 2010, 3-1 versus Belluno in 2011, 3-1 versus Perugia in 2012 and 3-0 versus Monza in 2014. The only two defeats were away matches: 1-3 versus Modena in 2006 and versus Treviso in 2007.
PalaTrento will then return to host an official match on Boxing Day after almost four years. Last three matches on Boxing Day confirmed PalaTrento's invincibility, also thanks to a wonderful home public: 4000 people versus Verona (2005) and Treviso (2010), 3700 people versus Perugia (2012). In this circumstance Diatec Trentino will play the 682nd official match of its history and will try to gain the 291st win in regular season, the 475th of all time.
THE OPPONENTS
The team Diatec Trentino is going to play against on Boxing Day will be a Kioene Padova particularly determined to put behind itself a difficult period.
With seven defeats in the last eight league games and still without a point in the second half of the season, Valerio Baldovin's team will face Diatec Trentino, which managed to drag until the tie-break in the previous match, and try to forget the recents defeats to continue its run toward the playoffs area, which is now four points far.
The physical problems accused in the recent times by the USA couple Averill (middle-blocker) and Shaw (setter, which was injured also last Sunday versus Perugia but is now ready for the match versus Diatec Trentino) have strongly influenced the team from Padova during last month, which remains however among the most effective teams in service and can always rely  on a high-ball trio of great value.
The opposite Giannotti and the spikers Maar and Fedrizzi (ex Diatec Trentino player) are in fact the main landmarks of Padova's attack and they also snatched a point in the away match versus Lube and won versus Latina.
PRECEDENTS
Trentino Volley and Pallavolo Padova have a long tradition of matches which begun in 2000 with some interruptions between 2012 and 2014 after the relegation of the Venetian Club in Serie A2. The first official match of all for Diatec Trentino at PalaTrento was played against the Venetian team: on October 2000 the Yellow-blues with coach Bagnoli won with a comeback on the Black-whites trained by Lorenzetti. They played 25 official matches of regular season: the yellow-blue team won 21 matches out of 25 with a sequence of 15 victories in a row that has been lasting for twelve years. The most recent success of Padua dates 13th February 2005, when at Pala San Lazzaro (now called Kioene Arena) the home team won for 3-2. The Venetian team has won once in twelve matches played at PalaTrento: on November 7th 2004, 1-3 with the former Meszaros mvp. The last match played dates 14th October 2016: 3-2 for Diatec Trentino in the match of the first half of the season.
REFEREES The match will be directed by Gianni Bartolini (from Florence, in Serie A since 1992 and on international field since 2006) and Andrea Pozzato (from Bolzano, in Serie A since 2004). They are at their first direction together in SuperLega UnipolSai 2016/17, the fifth for Bartolini (last precedent with Trento on 3rd April, victory for 3-1 against Molfetta in round 5 of the quarter-finals of playoff), the eighth for Pozzato, who has directed a match of Diatec Trentino for the last time on 26th February 2016 (home victory in four sets against Revivre). There is a particular link with Bartolini: it was him, together with Donato, who directed the first home match of all of Diatec Trentino, strangely enough a Trento-Padova (on 22nd October 2000, 3-2).
RADIO, TV AND INTERNET
The match will be reported live by Radio Dolomiti (Trentino Volley partner network). The links with the match at PalaTrento will be made within “Campioni di Sport”, the sport program of via Missioni Africane.
