Another double match against finnish team for Trentino Volley!

The qualification to the round of sixteen of CEV Cup 2017, gained tonight, guaranteed Trentino Volley a pass to enter among the best sixteen teams of the competition. The next obstacle to overcome in order to reach the quarterfinals will be in Finland again. In the round of sixteen (which will see only away and return knock-out matches until the finals) Diatec Trentino will play against another Finnish team: Valepa Sastamala, which like the yellow-blue team has already achieved the qualification on Tuesday night, defeating the Danish team Gentofte Volley. The going match will be played away between January 31st and February 2nd, the return one will be played two weeks later between the 14th and the 16th of February.
It will be necessary waiting for the confirmation of both teams, the national associations and the CEV to define the date and the hour. Like in the round of thirty-two, the team that goes to next round is the one which gains more points in two matches: 3 points for a 3-0 or 3-1 win, 2 for a tie break win, 1 for the tie break defeat (the same as SuperLega). The golden set is a 15 points set that has to be played only in case of draw after the return match.

VaLePa Sastamala (city in the south of Finland with around 25.000 inhabitants, located in the Pirkanmaa district) is one if the most famous and important teams of the country which has a long tradition in the national championship and also many attendances in the European competitions. Founded in 1978, the white and red team obtained recently, during seasons 2011/12 and 2013/14, its most prestigious victories, winning two national championships and the Finnish Cup. Thanks to the third place in the last Mestaruusliiga, it takes part to the fifth times to the CEV Cup; on the files also two presence in the Challenge Cup (2009 and 2014). The best european result is the quarter finals reached in 2016 CEV Cup, where they were defeated at the golden set by Berlin (coached by Serniotti) that won the competition. The roster for the coach Sami Kurtiila includes prominent and foreign names: the setter is Mikko Esko (who played in Italy with Padova, Montichiari and Modena), the opposite is the Venezuelan Chourio (who played in Champions with Almeria); in area 4 play Sivula (former Montichiari, Izmir and Berlin) and Kunnari (former Olympiacos, Ankara and Cannes); as middle blockers there are the American Carmody and the Australian Guymer. In the Finnish championship they are at the second place after 18 matches, with four points less than Hurrikaani Loimaa.
