Izmir (Turkey), February 1st 2018

The first European away match of 2018 has been won by Trentino Diatec. It's been an important victory since it sent the team back at the first position in the ranking of Pool E of 2018 CEV Champions League. Tonight in Turkey, the yellow-blues quickly demonstrated to have already moved past the defeat in Final Four Coppa Italia, in fact they won 3-1 against the home team Arkas Izmir; so it's not only an ego boost before the match against Perugia that will take place on Sunday, but it also meant the first position in the group ranking for Lorenzetti's team. Lanza and his team took advantage of Zaska's mistake in Maaseik and brought the first position back home getting ahead of the Poland's champions thanks to a greater number of points, 10 versus 9, having won the same amount of matches (3 each), right before the direct match. The team won using a different scheme from all the other matches of this season; Lorenzetti, indeed, chose to have three spikers simultaneously on the field. Lanza played very well the role of the “fake opposite hitter” (8 points and 50%), while Hoag and Kovacevic demonstrated their ability performing 35 points. Trentino Diatec needed a set of adjustment, the first one, before finding the right pace and dominating the match. Also they great performances of blocks (14 succeeding ones) and  and services played an important role in the victory, and Giannelli showed that he can push very much again since he' not suffering from shoulder problems anymore. Among the positive aspects of the match it is also important to highlight De Pandis' reception. He just restarted to play after the knee surgery (which he had three weeks ago), but he already played an essential role, together with Zingel (3 blocks with 71% in the first half).
