Trento, 13th June 2017
Trentino Volley is between the twelve top-tier teams that have been chosen by CEV for the 2018 CEV Volleyball Champions League. While awaiting the definitive position of the Italian Clubs for the participation in the European Cups in the season 2017/18, the European Federation has officially announced the list of the teams taking part in the next edition of 2018 CEV Volleyball Champions League. There will be 32 teams (eventually three Italian teams) representing twenty different countries. The last season’s formula has been confirmed; before the main phase (Trentino Volley is already sure about its participation in this phase thanks to its second place in SuperLega 2016/17), there will be two knockout phases with going and return matches. The eight teams that will pass the double qualifying round will join the twelve top-tier teams in the Main Phase, according on their European ranking.
The teams for the two qualifying rounds will be drawn on Wednesday 14th June in Luxemburg, while the drawing of the teams for the Main Phase is scheduled for November 16th, after knowing the names of the eight qualified teams. The two subsequent knockout phases have also been confirmed (Playoffs 12 and Playoffs 6), always with going and return matches; the teams that will get the qualification will play in the Final Four together with the organising Club.
If Trentino Volley were to take part in 2018 CEV Volleyball Champions League, it would be the twelfth experience in an European competition for the Club from Trento, the eighth in its history in this tournament; the Club has already won this tournament three times (2009, 2010, 2011) and has managed to get a second and a third place (2016 and 2012) boasting 61 victories out of 74 matches played in total.
All the thirty-two teams that will participate to 2018 CEV Champions League already qualified to the round phase: Zenit Kazan and Dinamo Moscow (Russia), Cucine Lube Civitanova and Trentino Diatec (Italy), Halkbank Ankara and Arkas Izmir (Turkey), Zaksa Kedzierzyn-Kozle and Pge Skra Belchatow (Poland), Chaumont Vb 52 Haute Marne* (France), Knack Roeselare (Belgium), Berlin Recycling Volleys (Germany), Paok Thessaloniki (Greece).
