It kicks off tomorrow evening, Tuesday, December 22nd, the 38th edition of the Del Monte^® Italian Cup with the first leg matches of the quarter-finals. In this double shift Diatec Trentino will challenge Exprivia Molfetta: first leg in Puglia, return match at PalaTrento on January 14th. The winner will win a pass to the Final Four, scheduled on February 6th-7th, 2016 at the Mediolanum Forum in Assago (Milan). The kick-off is scheduled at 8.30 pm, broadcasted live with commentary on Radio Dolomites and on League Volleyball Channel at  www.sportube.tv.
HERE DIATEC TRENTINO Trentino Volley returns to hunting the trophy, which they have won three times in the last six previous editions with the three points gained on Sunday evening in PalaTrento against Monza, that have further strengthened the third rank of Super League. The last match before the Christmas break, however, will be among the most difficult one in the first half of the season: in the first act of their career in this event, the Italian champions will face again the longest journey and come to terms with one of the two teams, which so far in the regular season, has imposed them a stop without being able to have on the bench Radostin Stoytchev. The Bulgarian coach will in fact have to serve during the quarter-final the two-match ban after the red card received in the final of 2015, following the course of the match from the stands of PalaPoli. In his place the vice Dario Simoni.
The Yellow-blues will reach Molfetta in full force: after the 3-1 victory on Sunday against Monza, the team met in the late morning today at PalaTrento to leave for Puglia, that will be already reached in late afternoon. Before the match, the eighteenth of the season and the 629° ever for Trentino Volley, Diatec Trentino will support a single session tomorrow, to finish between 9:30 am and 11.00 am.
In the Trentino roster, the player who has played the most number of editions of the Italian Cup is Massimo Colaci, that tomorrow will sign the sixth participation at the highest national trophy, followed by Filippo Lanza (the fifth). The newcomers will be instead the middle-blocker Daniele Mazzone, the setter Georgi Bratoev and the libero Carlo De Angelis. Three Yellow-blues who have already won the competition: Lanza (2), Colaci (2) and Djuric (2).
THE FORMULA OF DEL MONTE^® ITALIAN CUP 2016 The top eight teams that will classified at the end of the first round, will dispute the quarterfinals with first leg and return matches; to decree the four that will enter the Final Four on February 6th-7th, it will be applied the same settlement Playoffs 12 of CEV Champions League. In case of a victory for part or for the same amount of points (the successes at most in four sets, provide 3 points to the winner and 0 to the loser, while the tie-break distributes 2 points to the winner and 1 to the loser), at the end of the return match will be played, therefore, a partial additional playoff at 15. Tomorrow evening at the same time of Molfetta vs. Trento, they will also play Verona vs. Perugia, Modena vs. Monza and Latina vs. Lube. Who will pass the turn between Molfetta and Trento will face the winner of Latina vs. Lube in the semifinals.
PREVIOUSLY Tomorrow will stage the eighth comparison between the two teams, who compete continuously only in the 2013/14 season. The budget is 5.2 for Trentino Volley but in the last three previous, Puglia has always had to suffer a lot, just remedying the only two defeats in this year (at the tie-break on January 25th, in three sets on November 25th, in the only previous season) and winning only at the tie-break on April 19th in Game 2 of the quarter-final playoff championship. The only clear victory in PalaPoli is then referred to January 26th, 2014 (3-0); always in three sets, the home affirmation in PalaTrento.
REFEREES The couple Fabrizio Saltalippi (referee of Perugia) and Giorgio Gnani (second referee of Ferrara) will conduct a meeting on Tuesday evening. The two whistles, respectively in role since 1995 and 2003 and international from 2000 and 2009, are at their first season joint direction, the sixth for Saltalippi and the seventh for Gnani. They both had one prior meeting with Diatec Trentino in the regular season underway: Saltalippi directed Ravenna vs. Trent 0-3 on November 15th, while Gnani directed Trento vs. Padua 3-1 on November 1st and Milano vs. Trento 0-3, on December 5th.
