Trento, Januray 26th 2018
Tomorrow, Saturday Januray 27th , at PalaFlorio of Bari, the Final Four of Del Monte® Coppa Italia 2018 is startimg. Diatec Trentino will play the semifinal against Sir Safety Conad Perugia: the match is taking place at 6:00pm. Live on RAI Sport + HD and Radio Dolomiti.
HERE DIATEC TRENTINO The yellow-blues arrived to this appoinment after confiming the fourth position in the rankings thanks to the vicotry of Wednesday night against Castellana Grotte right in PalaFlorio. They aren't favoured but Lanza and his team are ready to do everything in order to conquer the access to the final of Coppa Italia, this winning against Perugia (against which they played in the last two semifinals of the other two Italian championships, that is to say Play Offs and SuperCoppa). The access to this final has already been conquered three times, in the last three seasons.
“This final four is a great opportunity for us and represent an incentive to go and stretch our limits- said the coach Angelo Lorenzetti. During this season Perugia demonstrated to play better than us; if we want to qualify to the final we need to play better than ow we did. We didn't have much time to get prepared to this appointment, since we also played on Wednesday night, but I hope the will to win will be stronger than the tiredness. We have an important chance and we will make the most of it”. Diatec Trentino has been in Puglia since Tuesday and tonight it will get an technical training at PalaFlorio, that will last one hour and a half; even the libero Daniele De Pandis is training with the team, even tough he probably won't be playing during the match. Tomorrow's match will be the 741th official match of Trentino Volley (balance sheet: 515 won matches and 225 defeats), and the 403th away match.
THE HISTORY OF TRENTINO VOLLEY IN COPPA ITALIA Today's the eve of the eleventh Final Four of Coppa Italia for the Club of via Trener; it participated sixteen times in this competition, which Trentino won in 2010, defeating Modena during the semifinal (3-0) and then Cuneo (3-1, on January 31st in Montecatini) and two times in 2012: it won the edition of the season 2011/2012 in PalaLottomatica of Rome, winning against Belluno (3-0) and Macerata (3-2), and between February 18th and 19th of the edition 2012/2013 at Forum of Assago, defeating Vibo Valentia (3-0) and Macerata (3-1) between December 29th 30th. On other occasions, on the other hand, the yellow-blues got stopped by Cuneo three times, (3-0, on February 2nd 2002 at Forum of Assiago, 3-0 on January 28th 2006 at PalaFiera of Forlì, in both cases it was the semifinal, and 3-0 on January 23rd at PalaOlimpia of Verona at the final), one time they were stopped by Piacenza (1-3 on March 8th 2014 at PalaDozza in Bologna) and two times by Modena (January 11th 2015 and February 7th 2016) at the final, and last time they were stopped by Civitanova (last final, on January 29th 2017). Trentino Volley played 36 matches in Coppa Italia until now, and it won 21 of them, including the last one (on October 18th 2017, 3-0 against Monza). The player with the highest percentage of attendance to this competition wearing the yellow and blue jersey is Colaci, who played 21 times between 2011 and 2017. Lanza played 17 times with the team, and that makes him the player with highest percentage of attendance of the current shortlist; He also is the only player (2) of the team, together with Kovacevic (3) to have his name on the albo d'oro (Hall of Fame).
THE OPPONENTS The last round of SuperLega, which was played on last Sunday, confirmed the first position in the rankings of Sir Safety Conad Perugia. It arrives to the Final Four, indeed, as the favorite team for the victory of the final match, because of the fact that it is 4 points ahead of Civitanova in the Campionato, and also because of how well it demonstrated to play during the first half of the season. After assuring itself the SuperCoppa, the team trained by the coach Lorenzo Bernardi only lost two matches out of 24, showing a great service and, a very efficient attack and a perfect ability to block, that often helped the playes in the second line, among which there also is Massimo Colaci (record-man of attendance with the Trentino Volley jersey, same amount of times as Birarelli, he's at his third match as a former). The SuperLega statistics can tell that this championship has been great for Atanasijevic (fourth best marker and third aceman), for Russel (fourth best attacker according to the weighted average) and for Anzani (best middle blocker), but their great perfomances also depend on the setter De Cecco. For Perugia, who has just qualified for the semi-finals by overcoming Padova with a 3-0 in the quarterfinals, the one in progress is the sixth in the Serie A1 Coppa Italia; the only participation in the Final is related to the 2013/14 edition, then won by Piacenza.
FINAL FOUR PROGRAM Tomorrow, Saturday January 27th, the semifinals will be played at PalaFlorio; before Trento-Perugia, at 3.30 pm the challenge between Civitanova and Modena will take place. The following day, Sunday, January 28th, the final between the two winners is scheduled at 17.30. All matches will be broadcast live on RAI Sport + HD.
THE BACKGROUND The semi-final will be a challenge that has been staged twice in the last five editions of the Italian Cup. Diatec Trentino and Sir Safety Conad are in fact again in front of each other in the final table after the quarterfinal of the 2013 edition (3-1 for Diatec at PalaTrento) and the semifinal of 2015, played at the PalaDozza in Bologna and won by 3- 2 from Trento in a double comeback. In total the official matches between the two companies are twenty-two: eight of them have been played in the last twelve and a half months. Analysis smile at Diatec for 14-8, but in the last period the Umbrians have found more often the victory as evidenced by the two victories in the current season: October 7th 2017, Del Monte Supercoppa Italian semi-final: Diatec Trentino- Sir Safety Conad 1-3 (20-25, 18-25, 25-23, 22-25) in Civitanova Marche and November 15th 2017, regular season: Sir Safety Conad-Diatec Trentino 3-0 (25-21, 26- 24, 30-28).
THE REFEREES Fipav has designated the six referees who will direct the semi-finals and finals, but without making yet known the composition of the couples who will referee in the individual matches and which will probably be unveiled only in today's evening. The “pink" can count on Roberto Boris (Pavia), Fabrizio Pasquali (Ascoli Piceno), Sandro La Micela (Trento), Andrea Puecher (Padua), Daniele Rapisarda (Udine) and Armando Simbari (Milan). With the exception of La Micela, they all boast at least one seasonal precedent with Trentino Volley.
