Uros Kovacevic spikes during the match

ph. Masiera Day

Schio (Vicenza), September 30th 2017

Diatec Trentino closes the month of September with a positive performance at PalaRomare of Schio. The 3-1 victory obtained this evening in the test match versus Kioene Padova, worth for the 3° “Masiera Day Memorial Livio Romare”, has in fact shown how much well the yellow-blue team is doing in the last period. The final result was in fact the natural consequence of a concrete performance from the point of view of every single fundamental and of a growing amalgam among the players who arrived recently and the ones who joined the entire preparation in Trento.
What was particularly satisfying was the already strong chemistry between Giannelli and his middle-blockers and Kovacevic (best scorer of the match with 23 points, 2 blocks, 5 aces and 62% in attack) and as well the idea of having at disposal a wide roster that could permit variations in the middle of the match. In this circumstance, Lorenzetti applied in fact a rotation of the roster, using in the field Teppan, Kozamernik and Cavuto after the first half of the match, during which Vettori, Zingel and Lanza performed well.
What in the end convinced more than all the rest was the attack fundamental (62% of the team with an 88% of Eder) and the incisiveness of the service, often fouls but directly scoring 12 times. These were the weapons that broke the solid defence of Padova, which missed Travica.
The report of the 3° “Masiera Day Memorial Livio Romare”. Just like what was anticipated at the eve of the match, Lorenzetti puts on the field for the first time of the season the one that could look like the real starting six: Giannelli as setter, Vettori in the opposite role, Lanza and Kovacevic as spikers, Eder and Zingel as middle-blockers and De Pandis in the libero role. Padova is missing Travica and so plays with Peslac as setter, the former Nelli in the opposite role, Randazzo and Cirovic as spikers, Volpato and Polo as middle-blockers and Balaso in the libero role.
The start of the match is characterized by the dominium of the middle-blockers of Trento: Zingel and Eder scores with regularity getting their team to 6-4, is then Captain Lanza (three break points in a row) the one who further accelerate (9-4). Baldovin interrupts the game but at the resumption is still Diatec Trentino to make a show of force in the block phase (12-6) with Vettori.
Padova tries to react in the central part of the first set (13-10) also thanks to an ace of Polo; Eder scented blood and pushes the opponents back with a block and a quick attack (17-12). The points that bring the yellow-blues to 1-0 comes quickly also thanks to Vettori who spikes really well from the 9-metres line (23-16) getting to the 25-17 that makes both the teams change side of the field.
Padova rears its head already in the first part of the second set, in which manages to dominate the side-out phase and then runs away (6-9 and then 6-13) thanks to the services of Cirovic (3 personal aces). On the 9-14 Lorenzetti has already used all the time-outs at his disposal, but in the hardest moment Diatec Trentino starts playing well again and gets closer (14-18) by making the most of their accurate system of block-defence. Baldovin interrupts the game as well, refreshing his team that in the final part becomes protagonist again with the block phase (18-22) and the service, again with Cirovic (20-25).
Starting from the third set, Lorenzetti takes Vettori, Lanza, De Pandis and Zingel off rotation and substitutes them with Teppan, Cavuto, Chiappa and Kozamernik. The Estonian opposite start his match very well and guides his team to the first acceleration (4-2), followed then by Eder (7-3). Kioene doesn’t back down and, again with the service, gets really close (10-9). Trento answers again with Teppan and Kozamernick, enlarging the gap (16-13, 18-15), but Cirovic at service bring his team back on the road (18-19). The final sprint is obtained by the yellow-blue team, which is very effective in break phase with Kovacevic (23-21, 25-23): the Serbian player himself closes the set with a nice pipe.
In the fourth set Partenio enter the field as setter in change of Giannelli; Padova confirms instead Premovic as opposite in change of Nelli, as already happened in the final part of the third set. The Serbian opposite rules on the net (4-7), but the fellow countryman Uros answers very well (9-9); Cavuto with his service deserves the applauses of the 2.500 present supporters from Schio (12-9). In the central part of the set Trento is more efficient in the side-out phase, maintaining its advantage intact (18-15); an error of Teppan brings though Padova again to life (18-18). An error of Premovic helps the yellow-blues to re-gain their advantage (21-19), immediately lost because of an attack error of Kovacevic and a block of Peslac that gets Padova to 23-24. To the advantages an ace of Partenio and another one of Kovacevic itself close the set (27-25).
