The match report about Diatec Trentino-VfB Friedrichshafen (test match in Bolzano). For the first international match of the season (in twelve days in Brazil there will be almost immediately 3 matches), Angelo Lorenzetti lines up Diatec Trentino with Giannelli as setter, Stokr as opposite, Antonov and Urnaut as spikers, Solé and Van de Voorde as middle-blokers, and Colaci libero. VfB Friedrichshafen trained by Vital Heynen replies with Tischer as setter, opposite Malescha, Rousseaux and Mustedanovic in zone 4, middle-blockers Takvam and Klein, Steuerwald libero. The absolute man of the house, Simone Giannelli, creates the first suspense of the match finding a block and in the second attack in break point phase which takes Trento immediately to +2 (3-1, 5-3). Another block, this time of Van de Voorde on Mustedanovic, and another attack of Giannelli allow Diatec Trentino to increase the edge (10-6). The German team takes a time out, but at the restart of the game the tendency doesn’t change (13-9, 18-12) with also Urnaut as protagonist. Tine is active in the attack actions and leads his team to the victory of the first set (25-18), that arrives with a block of three players on Malescha.
In the second set the match turns on, thanks also to more presence of Friedrichshafen in attack and blocks; after an initial tie (5-5, 8-8) the White-blue with Malescha score two points of edge (8-10, 11-13) that forces Lorenzetti to take a time out. However The coach’s directions don’t shake the Yellow-blue that lose further contact (14-18), suffering from Rousseaux’s attentions on blocks. In the darkest time, Diatec Trentino returns to play its already known Volleyball and with few play actions gets immediately back on track (18-20, 21-22), thanks to Urnaut. But the great recovery affects the clear-headedness in the final phase of the set that the vice champions of Germany win for 21-25 with particular attention on the recollection phase.

In the third set, the home team’s furious reaction produces an important spurt (6-1, 9-3) and this especially thanks to Stork and Solé. Heynen interrupts the game very often but doesn’t find effective countermeasures (14-10, 17-12); in the second part of the set Trento dominates (21-13 and then 25-16), exhibiting also Van de Voorde.
In the fourth set Lorenzetti gives space to Nelli, Daniele Mazzone and Chiappa, respectively in the place of Stokr, Solé and Colaci; initially Diatec Trentino struggles to find the rhythm (3-&) but then gets better (10-9) thanks to the services of the opposite hitter (just entered). Friedrichshafen reacts, benefitting from some rivals’ mistakes and regains advantage (13-15) and then takes flight to the deserved tie break (14-17, 15-20). At the end of the set, Trentino Volley’s coach places also Blasi and Tiziano Mazzone and the set concludes 20-25 without further starts.

In the fifth set, Diatec Trentino is ahead always for one point (5-4, 9-8) before the two teams reach 10; then Friedrichshafen conducts (10-12). Mazzone blocks Finger, who then misses the spike (14-13); during the advantages Lorenzetti’s team wins thanks to Van de Voorde and Urnaut (18-16).

This friendly match was full of intense moments and instants of insufficient continuity – commented Angelo Lorenzetti at the end of the test match - . We suffered the rivals’ game in some moments but my team did what I’d asked. I’m happy for Van de Voorde, Simon played five sets as a protagonist”.
