Trento, October 1st  2016

After the last weekend’s prolog in Modena concerning Del Monte® Supercoppa Italiana 2016, on Sunday October 2nd will officially start the 72th Championship of Serie A – the third one named SuperLega UnipolSai. On the first day of regular season 2016/17, Diatec Trentino will face Tonno Callipo Calabria Vibo Valentia at PalaTrento. The match will start at 6 p.m. with live coverage on Radio Dolomiti and live streaming on Lega Volley Channel at this link www.sportube.tv.
HERE DIATEC TRENTINO The first official event of the season in Modena last weekend didn’t give to Trentino Volley particular satisfactions, postponing the victory. Lanza and his team mates will try to break the ice in this official debut in front of their supporters, in order to start in the right way a tourney in which they aren’t in the frontline. Compared to the recent past, the Yellow-blue team has renewed only four players out of fourteen and will try to take advantage of this aspect to win against Tonno Callipo Calabria, on the contrary significantly renewed.
Angelo Lorenzetti asks to his team play actions and scores for the ranking. “It’s not an easy match because Vibo Valentia  is a team that will face this commitment with the enthusiasm of someone who is again, after two seasons, in  SuperLega and that at the same time has a team with a lot of interesting individualities – the new coach Diatec Trentino presented the commitment - . However after Supercoppa I spoke with my players, we have worked hard and in this occasion we want to show that we know put into practice what we have said and did during the trainings. We have to achieve immediately success to unfreeze us and show our potentialities”.
All Diatec Trentino will be there for the debut (662nd official match of its history, 405th  in regular season); also the middle-blocker Van de Voorde ,that is working with the group only from Wednesday, has showed how fast he is recovering energies in the friendly match won on Thursday evening against Padova and after the  tour de force with his national team ( six matches played in ten days). In the past sixteen seasons of maximum national championship, Trentino Volley won his first match nine times: 2002/03 (won against Milan for 3-1), 2005/06 (against Padova for 3-0)
2008/09 (3-0 against Forlì), 2009/10 (3-1 against  Latina), 2010/11 (3-0 against Castellana Grotte), 2011/12 (3-0 against Monza), 2013/14 (success in the fifth against Latina), 2014/15 (3-0 against Padova) e 2015/16 (3-1 in Monza). Between the seven defeats in the debut,  three are in front of friendly audience: 2004/05 season (Trento-Perugia 1-3), 2006/07 (Trento-Taranto 2-3) and 2012/13 (Trento-Vibo 1-3).
HOME DEBUT WITH VIBO LIKE IN 2012/13 CHAMPIONSHIP The debut in the championship against Vibo Valentia precisely at PalaTrento isn’t new for Trentino Volley: in the past, already the 2012/13 season, it occurred the home match in the first day against the Calabrians. However the memories aren’t enjoyable because   Tonno Callipo surprisingly won, conquered the establishment in via Fersina for 1-3 on October 7th 2012, the only one success in is history in Trentino. For the Club in via Trener that defeat was in any case a good luck charm because led to 26 consecutive victories and the achievement of Mondiale per Club 2012 and Coppa Italia 2013.
RIVALS Tonno Callipo Calabria Vibo Valentia arrives in SuperLega after two years (season 2013/14), when it spontaneously decided to leave the Serie A1 to play in Serie A2. After two seasons without gaining the promotion it returned to Serie A1:  the request of the red-yellow management to participate in SuperLega UnipolSai 2016/17 as fourteenth team was positively considered by Lega. In order to do well, the team of Vibo Valentia organized a great team with trainer Waldo Kantor; the former coach of Ravenna can count on setter Coscione and on a Brazilian trio that bodes well with middle blocker Deivid Junior Costa and hitters Kadu Barreto and Thiago Alves (silver medallists at the Olympic Games of London 2012 with the Brazilian team). The Italian players are the middle blockers Barone and Diamantini and the libero Marra, while the opposite is the Slovakian Michalovic. In the roster there are also setter Ugo Buzzelli who has grown in the youth field of Trentino Volley, although he never played as regular player; he will debut in SuperLega in this very occasion at PalaTrento, where he played during the trainings or the youth tournaments. Among the friendly matches in the pre-championship period of Vibo Valentia, the team won the four-team competition of Atripalda (3-2 against Latina) and that of Sora (3-0 against Siena).

PRECEDENTS Trentino Volley and Callipo Sport Vibo Valentia have a long tradition of competitions that begun twelve years ago (on October 3rd 2004) with the first official contest in regular season (victory at the tie breaker for the yellow-blue team). Trento won 5 times in the last 6 matches played; the most recent success of Vibo Valentia dates December 7th 2013 (3-2). On March 2nd 2014 Trento played the last match against Vibo Valentia at PalaTrento: victory 3-1 for the yellow-blue team, in which already played Solé, Lanza, Tiziano Mazzone, Colaci and Burgsthaler.
