Trento, 28th March 2017

Report of the match. Trentino Diatec fields Giannelli as setter, Nelli as opposite, Urnaut and Lanza in area 4, Daniele Mazzone and Solé as middle blockers, Colaci as libero; Fenerbahce chooses Keskin as setter, Toy as opposite, Quesque and Sket as spikers, Emet and Pajenk at the centre, Ozbek as libero. The positive beginning of the opponents (2-4, with a good performance by Toy) is immediately interrupted by the home team, with Solé and Urnaut at the service who turn the tables and the team takes the lead by 8-5. After the first technical time-out the advantage increases (12-8 and then 16-8) because the Slovenian shows to be at his best in attack too, Giannelli performs efficient blocks (2 in a row) and Lanza scores two consecutive aces. The yellow-blue service is at its best tonight, as shown by Daniele Mazzone, who scores another ace by 18-9. This forces the Turkish coach to ask for a time-out. As the game starts again Trento is always controlling the game (20-10) with just two consecutive errors by Solé in the final phase (20-12) that limits the gap of Fenerbahce, which surrenders by 25-16 in the first set.

The second set is very similar: the team of Lorenzetti immediately takes the lead thanks to a sharp service of Lanza (another ace for 5-2), gradually increasing its speed (8-4, block of Solé against Toy). The Turkish team faces difficulties not only in reception but also in attack, allowing Urnaut to play a central role and enabling Giannelli to play at high levels (14-5). In the final part of the set, Nelli too shows a good performance (good block against Quesque scoring 18-7) which gives the victory of the second set to his team (25-12).

In the third set Fenerbahce tries to react taking advantage of the only blackout of Trento and takes the lead by 1-5. Lorenzetti doesn’t ask for a time-out; with Urnaut at the service the home team closes the gap by seven without interrupting the game. An action by Quesque (block against Nelli) and an ace by Toy allow the opponents to take the lead again (10-13); Trento reaches its opponents thanks to Solé (14-14) and accelerates by 18-17 thanks to a direct error of Toy. Nelli scores an ace and takes his team to +2 (21-19), immediately followed by Lanza (23-20): Trentino Diatec wins the third set by 25-23 thanks to Giannelli.
