In the last match of the Champions League Pool E on Wednesday night, Simone Giannelli produced a great performance against Maaseik and celebrated the win by taking home the MVP award in PalaTrento, fifteen months after the last time: November 13th 2016 against Lube Civitanova. The journalists that watched the match were impressed not only by his substantial performance as setter but moreover by his contribution in the block phase. Scoring nine blocks in one single match Simone played one of the best matches ever in Trentino Volley history in the block fundamental; third in this “blocker’s rank” he placed behind Djula Mester and Emanuele Birarelli who both scored ten blocks, respectively against Roma on October 21st 2001 and against Dinamo Mosca on April 11th 2015. Giannelli replaced in third position his teammate Eder, who scored eight last November 23rd against Latina in the 3-2 home win. Never did a setter score so many blocks.
After a day off, Diatec Trentino returned to PalaTrento this morning and started preparing the match against Gi Group Monza, scheduled on Sunday night at Candy Arena in Monza; this is the last 2017/18 SuperLega UnipolSai regular season match and Yellow-blues need to win in order to secure the fourth place despite the result of Verona. Live coverage of the match will start on Radio Dolomiti and on the Lega Volley Channel at 6pm.
