The report of the match. In the starting six of Itas Trentino Lorenzetti has given space to Cebulj, who played diagonally across from Kovacevic; Russell has stayed at the hotel in Latina because of a flu virus. The other five regular players haven’t changed: Giannelli in the lead, Vettori as opposite, Lisinac and Candellaro as middle blockers, Grebennikov as libero. Top Volley responded with Sottile as setter, Patry as opposite, Van Garderen and Palacios as spikers, Rossi and Szwarc as middle blockers, Cavaccini as libero. The start of Trentino Volley is convincing during the break point phase, so the guests get to 5-3 and then 9-7 thanks to an immediately effective Kovacevic. A block by Szwarc on Candellaro and an ace by Van Garderen close the gap (10-10); Trento doesn’t sway and gets a new advantage thanks to Cebulj and Vettori (16-12). Latina still has the strength to recover (17-17) with ex Itas player Van Gardener and Palacios (ace) and then to get the upper hand thanks to another scoring serve by Sottile and a block by Szwarc (17-20). At this point it seems like the first set has been decided, because Top Volley keeps the advantage till 21-24. The second set begins with some difficulties for Itas Trentino, who struggles in the serve-receive phase and allows Top Volley to immediately get to 1-3 and 2-6 with Palacios’ ace. The team remains united and thanks to Kovacevic catches up first at 8-10 and then at 11-13 after Latina had gotten to 9-13. Tubertini’s time out doesn’t interrupt Trento’s good series of actions, which lets the team reach the opponents at 13 points thanks to Cebulj and then pass them (15-13 and 18-15). The Slovenian is in great shape and gives an important contributions to the team with his attacks (22-17); then, thanks to a couple of mistakes made by Latina, Itas gets to 2-0 (25-18).
The impact on the third set is still negative for Itas Trentino, that is affected by Latina’s play; on 2-5 Lorenzetti asks for a time out, but the team’s reaction is slow. As time passes Top Volley gaines more and more points (6-9, 8-12, 9-16) thanks to Patry and Van Garderen. The coach of Marche region changes players, with little results. Latina is boosting in all fundamentals and gains some points winning the set for 19-25.
