Champions League, Trentino Itas wins in Czech Republic and Qualify for the Quarterfinals

The Czech Republic once again proves to be a fertile ground for the Trentino Volleyball European matches. In the country where eleven years ago the club won its first Champions League, the yellow-blue team has in fact achieved the goal planned since the beginning of the season, obtaining the qualification for the quarterfinals of the most important continental tournament. To secure the pass that places the team among the eight best teams in Europe, the yellow-blue club, however, had to suffer for over two hours of play at home of Jihostroj Ceske Budejovice during the sixth and final round of Pool A. In disadvantage to 0-2 after a beginning of match in favour of the Czechs, Giannelli and his team mates found the strength to turn the situation around through a change of strategy: baby Michieletto played in the starting six and and Cebulj changed his role with Vettori. Lorenzetti's tactical move paid off because from the third set on, the fearful Trentino Itas made room for a team more convinced and confident. Russell led the team to 3-2 (19 points with 67% in attack) and also Lisinac, best scorer of the match with 23 points, 2 blocks and 81% in attack. The performance of Michieletto (8 points and a lot of useful work between reception, service and block) and Cebulj were also fundamental to the result. With a final score of 3-2, Trentino Itas secured the second place in the round, being one of the top three second places in all five pools. Already on Thursday, February 20 at 13:00 in Luxembourg, the CEV will define the matches for the quarterfinals, which will be played in the first half of March.

Here follows the match report of the game of the sixth round of Pool A of 2020 CEV Champions League, played this afternoon at Ceske Budejovice's Sportovny Hala.
