SuperLega, notes and statistical curiosities after the home 2-3 with Padova

Here are some statistical curiosities emerged after the fourth game of SuperLega Credem Banca 2021/22, lost by 2-3 by Itas Trentino at the BLM Group Arena against Kioene Padova.

FIRST SEASONAL DEFEAT. The one against the Venetian team is the first seasonal setback for Itas Trentino, which has ended the streak of five consecutive wins made between 12 and 31 last October. In the previous regular seasons, only in the season 2005/06 did the yellow-blue Club find the first KO in the fourth round, while in the seasons 2010/11 and 2019/20 the period of initial invincibility lasted more.

LATEST HOME DEFEAT AT THE FIFTH SET WITH PADOVA. There is a common element between the two latest defeats at the tie break at the BLM Group Arena by Itas Trentino: Kioene Padova. Before the result of Wednesday evening, Padova was the last team to win by 2-3 at the BLM Group Arena: the previous win dates back to 20 November 2019 and is referred to a match of regular season. In its history, the Venetian Club had won at the PalaTrento only one other time: 7 November 2004 by 1-3.

HOW MANY TIE BREAKS WITH PADOVA. When Trentino Volley and Pallavolo Padova face each other, at least one time out of three the match ends at the fifth set. The statistic tells how 34% (13 out of 38) of the official matches played against the Venetians ends at the tie break, with the yellow-blue winning in eight occasions and the Venetians in five, which have only two other wins with a different result.

NEVER SO GOOD AT BLOCKING IN 2021. The fifteen points scored with blocking during the match with Padova represent the best figure recorded by Trentino Volley during 2021, characterized already by 37 official matches. To find a better performance in this fundamental, we have to go back to first December 2020: 16 blocks in the success by 3-2 on Novosibirsk (first round of the pools phase of Champions League). Podrascanin’s 6 winning blocks are the best score in this fundamental obtained in a single match by the Serbian middle blocker with the yellow-blue jersey.

10 OUT OF 12. On Wednesday evening, Srecko Lisinac offered one of the best performances in attack of his career with Trentino Volley, scoring 83% of the spiked balls (10 out of 12). Considering the only suffered block, the one by Vitelli in the second set, the Serbian middle blocker had only one ball defended, coincidentally the one attacked in one of the four set points that Itas Trentino had available during the tie break. A real joke.

D’HEER LOOSENS UP. The new Belgian middle blocker took only a few minutes on the field during the fourth set to find the first cue of his career with the Trentino Volley jersey. Replacing Podrascanin, Wout D’Heer has scored the block that made Itas Trentino win the fourth set, sending the two teams to the fifth and decisive set.

100. With seventeen points scored on Wednesday evening, Matey Kaziyski is the first player of the yellow-blue team 2021/22 to arrive in triple figures regarding the personal score of the season. The Captain has reached exactly 100, with an average of 16.6 per game.
