SuperLega, preview of the 10th round at BLM Group Arena on Thursday

On Thursday, November 18th, the BLM Group Arena will host the second of the two matches that Trentino Volley had to anticipate in order to take part in the 2021 World Club Championship in Brazil between December 7th and 11th. On this occasion, the yellow-blue team will receive the visit of Gas Bluenergy Piacenza on the tenth day of the regular season (originally scheduled for December 5th). Kick-off scheduled for 8:30 pm: live broadcast on Radio Dolomiti and live streaming on the OTT Volleyball World Tv platform.
HERE ITAS TRENTINO November continues to reserve appointments of the highest level; after Monza, here is another direct match for the top teams of the ranking.
"It's a difficult match, but we knew it would be difficult ever since the schedule was defined, because Piacenza is one of those teams that doesn't hide its desire to climb the volleyball hierarchy - said Trentino Volley coach Angelo Lorenzetti on the eve of the match -. The start of the season has confirmed this type of ambition on the court: in fact, until now Gas Sales Bluenergy has lost one game less than us and is, with the same number of games played, ahead of us. Having said that, on Thursday night we won't sit back and watch: we'll try to collect points to move up the rankings; it would be very important for the ranking but also for the growth process that we started at the beginning of the season and that we want to continue".
For the occasion, the Trentino coach will have at his disposal the entire shortlist of thirteen players, who will complete their preparation for the match with training sessions this afternoon and on Thursday morning at the BLM Group Arena. For Trentino Volley, this will be the 901st official match in its history, the 533rd in the regular season, the 416th at the BLM Group Arena, where it will be looking for the 329th home success.
THE OPPONENTS With thirteen points collected in the first six matches of the regular season played, with only one loss, Gas Sales Bluenergy Piacenza comes to the BLM Group Arena strong after an initial part of the championship that is absolutely in line with their important ambitions. During the Volley Market, the Company has strengthened a team that had already obtained the qualification to the Play Off in the previous season. The many quality additions (above all the French player Brizard as setter, his compatriot Rossard as opposite spiker, the Turkish opposite player Lagumdzija and the spiker Recine) have immediately offered an important contribution and created valid alternatives in every sector; it is enough to think that the former players Antonov and Russell are available and at the center the coach Lorenzo Bernardi can choose the two starters among Cester, Holt, Caneschi and Tondo. Piacenza has won two of its three away games so far, losing only in Monza, but winning on traditionally difficult courts such as Civitanova and Modena.
PREVIOUS MATCHES The contest again Piacenza has become over time a classic of Italian men's volleyball, not only for the conspicuous number of matches played, which place the team from the Emilian city as the third opponent faced most times by Trentino Volley (60, behind Civitanova with 81 and Modena with 76). In fact, the challenge has featured as many as three Scudetto finals (2008, 2009 and 2013) and is back in the top Italian championship in the 2019/20 season after just one season of absence: the 2018/19 season, in which it had to deal with a restart from the Serie A2. The balance is clearly in favor of Trentino Volley by 42-18, especially thanks to twenty-six victories in the thirty most recent direct matches. In the last twelve years, the BLM Group Arena has always been an unbeatable rival; to find a Piacenza victory in the Via Fersina stadium, it is necessary to go back to May 17th 2009 (3-2 in game 5 of the Playoff Final, resulting in the Scudetto victory), when Angelo Lorenzetti was on the red and white team's bench. Overall, Trento has won twenty-seven of the thirty-two previous matches played against Piacenza on home court, including two from the previous season: December 20th, 2020 (3-0 victory with scores of 25-16, 25-21, 25-17) and March 10th, 2021 (tie break victory, scores of 25-18, 23-25, 22-25, 25-20, 15-8 in game 1 of the Play Off quarterfinals). The last match was played in Emilia: March 14th, 2021, success for 1-3 (17-25, 27-25, 18-25, 22-25) at PalaBanca in game 2 of the Play Off quarter-finals.
THE REFEREES The match will be refereed by the couple composed by Massimo Florian (from Altivole - Treviso, in Serie A since 2007) and Mauro Goitre (from Turin, in role since 2014), respectively at the fifth and fourth match in SuperLega 2021/22. The last previous match with Trentino Volley for Florian dates back to March 28th (3-2 win in Civitanova in game 1 of the Play Off semifinals), while for Goitre it dates back to April 1st (home loss against Lube in game 2 of the Play Off semifinals).
