Access to the Supercup Final eludes only at the tie break

The dream of playing a new final at PalaPirastu in Cagliari vanished in the fifth set and only after two hours and twenty minutes of battle for Itas Trentino. In the arena where, eleven years ago, it had achieved its first historic victory in the competition, this evening Trentino Volley had to reckon with a tie-break defeat against Perugia in the second semi-final of the Del Monte® Supercoppa 2022.
It will therefore be the Umbrians who will play, on 1 November at 5 p.m. in Sardinia, the match that will award the first title of the Italian men's volleyball season against Cucine Lube Civitanova. The yellow-blue line-up, defending champions, will still have the chance to play, three hours earlier, the final for the platonic third position (against Modena), but also the great pride for having contested for five sets the qualification to what is currently the only still unbeaten team in the Italian championship, making it falter for a long time.
The first and fourth sets showed Itas Trentino to be very effective in the break phase, and also very fluent in the changeover phase, supported by the great performance of the second line (superb Laurenzano), but also by the continuity at the net of Kaziyski (23 points with 42% and five ace), Michieletto (18 with 50%), and the flashes at the net of Sbertoli (4 blocks), Podrascanin and Lisinac (identical score: 7 points, 62% at the net and two blocks).
Sir Safety Susa suffered but responded with its best weapons (18 winning blocks , 10 aces and Leon's 19 points), taking back the game twice: in the second set when it was down 0-1 and at 2-2, dominating the tie-break.
Below is the scoreboard of the second semi-final of the Del Monte® Supercoppa 2022 played tonight at the PalaPiratsu in Cagliari.
