Club World Champs, a brave Trentino Itas is not enough: Perugia wins the title

The dream to bring  the World Champions title for the men's volleyball club to Trento for the sixth time, breaks off just a few meters away from the finish line for Trentino Itas. The Final of the Volleyball Club World Championship 2022, played tonight in Brazil at the Ginasio Poliesportivo Divino Braga in Betim, went well for Sir Safety Susa Perugia, who was able to hinder the yellow-blue team’s toughness for 3-1 at the end of a hard-fought, exciting and uncertain match.
The understandable disappointment at just getting close to such a goal, does not diminish the silver medal conquered today by Lorenzetti’s team. After having knocked out the hosts and reigning champions of Sada team on Saturday, Kaziyski and his teammates made it really difficult for the Umbrian team, who have been the SuperLega’s main leaders and are now competing in this season. The match’s start was one of the best for both teams; with a very efficient hit, a neat and focused block and an attack out of this world, the yellow-blue team won the first set and, with the same weapon (even though it was less strong), fought hard in the second and third set, then lost at the sprint after an hour of actual fight and constant twists. The fact that Trentino Itas got so close to the goal in the third set (in which it had been ahead 18-14) also marked Trento in the fourth set, in which Perugia took advantage of Leon (17 points) and the efficiency of benched members (Herrera Jaime 9, Plotnytskyi 16). Even though Trento succeeded in recovering from the minus score 10-17 (reaching 17-19), it was not enough to push the game to the tie break. The silver World Champion medal (the first one in the yellow-blue tea’s history), keeps Trener Street’s Club on the podium for the ninth time (out of ten participations in the championship) and is signed by Michieletto (21 points with 54%, two blocks and four aces), the captain Kaziyski (17 with 56%) and Podrascanin (9 with 3 blocks), all included in the “ideal sextet” of the championship.
