Sir Safety Susa-Trentino Itas 3-1, the 2022 Club World Championship Final match report

The match report. Trentino Itas gets on court with the standard lineup in occasion of its appointment of the year in Brazil: the starting six includes Sbertoli as setter, Kaziyski as opposite spiker, Michieletto and Lavia as hitter spikers, Lisinac and Podrascanin as middle blockers and Laurenzano as libero. Sir Safety Susa replies with Giannelli as setter, Rychlicki as opposite spiker, Leon and Semeniuk as hitter spikers, Russo and Flavio as middle blockers, Colaci as libero. The yellow-blue team’s start is convincing: Lavia’s block on Semeniuk and Michieletto’s ace marks the first sprint (5-2), then the tension increases with the Polish member’s error at the net and Kaziyski’s ace (9-4); Anastasi calls the first timeout. At the restart, Trento keeps on calling the shots in the break phase, with Lavia (ace) and Podrascanin (block) for 13-8 and then 16-9, because Seminiuk keeps on struggling to reply. The Umbrian bench takes cover: Plotnytskyi gets on court and immediately scores some points, taking the match to 20-16. Podrascanin succeeded in avoiding the opponents’ threats but then it was Michieletto and the Captain’s turn to protect the advantage-score and secure the first set 25-20.
In the second set Plotnytskyi stays on court at the place of Semeniuk and it is the Ukrainian himself who makes a comeback for Sir Safety Susa Perugia, which goes from 3-3 to 3-6. Lorenzetti calls a timeout; Trento teeters but does not give up and restarts with Michieletto and Kaziyski (8-11), forcing the opponents to call a timeout. When the game resumes, Rychliki makes other sprints (12-16 and 16-21), but it is not the decisive one; Trento team makes a comeback and reach 23-24, and avoids the two set balls before giving up at the third one: 23-25 with Kaziyski’s error at service, after Matey himself made an ace.
In the third set Trentino Itas starts at full speed (6-3 and 10-6), taking advantage of the opponent’s errors, then Anastasi replaces Herrera with Rychlicki. Perugia makes a comeback and reaches 13-12, then Michieletto, Kaziyski and Podrascanin make another sprint (18-14). With Plotnytskyi’s service Sir Safety Susa goes ahead with the score and makes it a 0-5 set (18-19). At the sprint the yellow-blue team avoided two set balls, before suffering from Flavio’s block on Podrascanin, which takes Perugia to 2-1 (25-27).
Sir Safety Susa starts the fourth set at full speed (3-6 and 6-10), still excited about the set victory, thanks to Herrera Jaime and then Leon, who replies well in each action. The yellow-blue team starts failing at serve and Perugia makes no concessions; on 10-17, Michieletto and Kaziyski’s pride is clear (13-17 and 17-19). Leon at service and some direct aces wipe away every yellow-blue team’s hope (17-23). The silver medal arrives at 19-25 with Flavio’s attack.
